It's kind of weird because I saw a graphic that said Seravalli said that, but I don't actually see anything other than a second rate blog that quotes it again...Anybody got the link to the tweet or actual story where Seravalli says it? Because the internet makes it seem like BS...

I also saw Gibson is committed to Anaheim. Whether that's the case or not who knows.

Why would Gibson get more than Matt Murray? He's in the same range performance-wise and has a greater cap hit.

    1) Holland for one will not be giving up a good asset for a goalie, let alone multiple.
    2) Gibson has said he wanted to stay and hasn't requested a trade.
    3) Gibson's agent who is also Jack Campbell's agent, said reiterated that Gibson wants to stay in Anaheim, and he said he has no interest in playing for Toronto, so probably the same for Edmonton. I'm sure Gibson's agent will do anything in his power to make sure that Jack Campbell gets his payday, and the Oilers are the front-runners now it seems, before a team trades for Gibson.
    4) Verbeek would probably not want Yamamato since he's due a raise, he's not that great either but he likely will waterdown the return. Instead he will want the 2 first+a top prospect probably.

Murray was a cap-dump but more importantly a salary dump, Gibson won't be moved as one, he will be traded as an elite-goalie but they will eat some cap so that his hit better matches his performance.

The ducks have never said they would retain on a Gibson deal

Don’t believe everything Seravalli says. The top Canadian “insiders” (Seravalli & Friedman) are wrong more often than right when it comes to the Ducks

It took Servalli over a week to update that Gibson doesn’t want out even after Gibson himself said it

Don’t fall for the click bait

He's not elite though. He hasn't been elite since 2018.

You have a point. But for 4 mill, in a high offensive team, I'm sure he could turn into something where we've seen before.

John Gibson is worth more than Matt Murray. I know numbers have been sh*t.

Kuemper is set to get 6m probably, Grubauer got 6m basically, they aren't elite goalies. A lot of the good starters are getting paid 5m. Teams fear to trade struggling prospects sometimes because they don't want to trade them for cheap and have them break out. Gibson was actually a proven elite goalie who was on a bad team for a long time and was posting good numbers until the last 3 years where he has sub-average stats. He couldn't carry them anymore so his numbers took a hit, and a rebuild being announced doesn't help. So, it's not a stretch to think that he will at least be a good starter in a new team.

So I think Verbeek will be willing to eat like 1m-1.5m (so 5-7.5m in salary over the 5 years). which puts him at 4.9-5.4m salary which is starter money but he will want the return for an elite goaltender. That's what I think.

There's simply WAY too much risk to be giving up good assets IMO. 2018 is a LONG time ago in a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately league

It's like trading for Chychrun by matching the insane ask, but higher risk/reward.

I could see him getting moved but for like picks only or a good prospect. Goalies don't typically have much value anyways so 2 firsts is a lot in itself. The 2023 draft is deep so a first and second (even if it's probably going to be a late pick) + a 2024 first would be a package that I could see Gibson going for at 5m if there's a contender that misses out on the FAs. I don't think there will be one though, I see Kuemper going to WSH, Campbell to EDM, and Varlamov to BUF.

Not sure what other teams would need a goalie. I think FLR is willing to retain half of Bobrovsky's cap as well so if a team does emerge later in the year that needs a goalie, those are two high risk, high reward options. Gibson is only 28 though which is relatively young for a goalie and by then he will have played some games so he can be judged off of new numbers. Perhaps SJ acquires him during the season if they are making a push for the playoffs and need a goalie, he would still be in Cali.

Every time I think I've nailed four comments containing extensive substantial insight in one thread, I strain my shoulder patting myself on the back.

Yeah, I saw it (a graphic) on twitter and was surprised that there was nothing on Ducks twitter about it...I'd say there's a pretty solid chance that it was balogna, but I could be wrong. Doesn't seem to be much of a push to move him. GMPV has been very quiet (which is a good thing?)
