CBJ needs a RHD to play with Werenski. Marino would be a perfect fit. Columbus can't sign Laine rn and hes probably on his way out

We have absolutely no reason to do that for you. Why do you think we can take on a 4 million dollar LHD?

Laine costs guentzel as a start but only has 2 years of control left so you would need to add an A level prospect which the pens don’t have

Probably but Marino is coming off an average year + weak prospect + late 1st isnt great. Marino gets you a guy like Garland / BB not Laine. imo

If the jackets are trading Laine they aren’t competing for the playoffs this year. The year after corson or jiricek would be ready. Also Marino isn’t a centerpiece for a Laine trade.

The jackets can also afford Laine if they trade Nyquist which won’t be hard to move

The Jackets have $5.65 mil in cap space right now after trimming their roster down to 23. They only need to move out Nyquist to get up to $11.15 mil in cap space. They can very easily sign him and still have $2+ mil in cap space.

He’s 3 years older and has played with the second best player in NHL history his entire career. Laines center was Boone Jenner last year and he was PPG

Go to stathead.com and compare them… Guentzel is better in almost every category

Pens aren’t trading guentzel and jackets won’t trade laine to the pens without him. Don’t see this working to eithers advantage.

You're forgetting they both started their career in 2016, so age isnt a factor. He has the better numbers. He might be older, but that doesnt mean anything. He consistently puts up 40+ goals and if it weren't for injuries hed be putting up more. Hes getting better every year even at his age. Some players star the league later than others. He did and is still the better player. Yes he played with Crosby and Malkin, but Laine played with good players as well like Scheifele and Wheeler who at the time was having good seasons.

This is crazy to say Guentzel holds less value than Laine. And Laine ain’t worth much to CBJ if he doesn’t sign.

Guentzel has proven himself without Geno or Sid cus of our horrible luck with injuries both this and last year. and I wasn’t the one that said this trade would go through lol Marino Legare and a 1st wouldn’t get us Laine like this guy did

I would argue that this is true even though I also have no problem acknowledgeing that Guentzel is the better player. It's the Pittsburgh Discount. smile

Offensively they produce the same production with Laine being younger and not playing with Crosby. Defensively maybe. This doesn’t make sense for either team to do. Jackets don’t need an older player. Guentzel has only played 38 games in his career without being on the same line as Crosby so it doesn’t make sense for the pens to trade him with the chemistry he has with Sid
