Nylander's lack of term would be a big factor in this. The Leafs would need to add significantly.

Nylander+knies is a start. Calgary has no use for a cap dump in muzzin

Send Kerfoot to Nashville, Seattle isn't paying a second for a rental.

I believe Tkachuk wants to either return to the States or play with his brother. Matthews will likely do the same and head beck to the States at the end of his contract.

I think Leafs fans need temper expectations on a Tkachuk trade. Unfortunately, the return for players on his level never meets fan expectations. Nobody knows if they want all futures, a mix or just a replacement yet. If they want a replacement, you're going to be hard-pressed to find many teams that have a first line winger (they're willing to move) to send back that has two+ years term.

CGY's best bet is to get another RFA that won't re-sign with their team, but that's also a small selections of teams.

I do think the Muzzin part of this deal is bad. CGY doesn't need him.

I mean sure, the Leafs will not be able to add another 10+ mil forward to their roster but where's the fun in that?

I'm just saying, two years of a player like Nylander goes a really long way. It's also possible to re-sign a player by then.
