If you think he's barely an upgrade on Brodie this conversation is over. You clearly don't know what you're talking about. Remember that I can't stand the Devils, FYI. I'm a Pens fan.

Yeah well, you need more. Lijigren still needs another year or two before he's making a real impact.

You do understand that Severson has been doing that as a first pairing dman on THE DEVILS, right? Are you unable to put things in relative standards? And hey, If you have ONE guy who can play that way, just stop lol

Compelling argument.

Let's get something out of the way. I actually like watching the leafs. Matthews is far and away one of my favorite players in the league and I pull for you guys. Leafs fans on here though are out of their minds with zero perspective. The Leafs took a MAJOR step backwards this off-season with what they did to their goaltending tandem and it's a shame, so right now, while yeah, you could use to bolster bottom-six, upgrading your top four dmen is imperative.

The Funny thing is everyone looks at the Leafs Tendys & says It’s Ass, THEY HAD SUB .900 Goaltending & still got 115 Points, how are you telling me they need to bolster their top 4 when it did fine with very subpar goaltending,All The Leafs Need is Murray or Samsonov to play decently & they are fine

THIRD PAIR

Look at his quality of competition. He needs another year or two before he's ready for the top four. He still gets lost out there in a rookie way.

Dude, let's chill out for a second because I'm honestly not a leafs hater.

Take the blue and white glasses off. You do realize that your goaltending got substantially worse now right?

You didn’t watch any leaf games they put him in the Top 4 & he did fine, Positive xGF with every single partner he had even Holl (Idk why Keefe did that either) Fact is The Leafs Don’t need Severson he is a great player but Willy is not worth trading for a Rental

First off, I think Nylander is awesome. Let's get that out of the way, but you have to make values relative because not all positions are valued the same way. Wingers don't hold the same kind of value as top pairing RHDs and you should know that. RHD's, especially ones like Severson, rarely become available.

Just this off season weve seen burns, weegar, petry, and marino moved in trades. It happens a lot.
And scoring wingers do actually cost a lot if you look at the history too, especially when they are younger, have more term and are coming off better seasons

Yeah, because you guys have been killing it in the playoffs during the Matthews era. I'm not sure you're clear on your own needs.

Yeah, and if you knew anything about why they havent had success you'd know this would be awful for the leafs

Substantially Worse, The Goaltending was Abysmal last year Mrazek was swiss cheese most nights, Campbell had some terrible months & Kallgren was the only guy that looked Ok, Leafs didn’t even get AVERAGE goaltending Last Year & made a franchise record for points in a single season. Severson is not worth Willy get that through your skull dude, Willy is worth much more than Severson cause The Devils cannot keep Severson with Marino & Hamilton but the Leafs CAN & WILL keep Willy

He didn't spend THAT much time in the top four. Ruhwedel played some top four time, too, but I wouldn't say he played in the top four.

You guys need to overcompensate. Your goaltending puts you on the bubble this year and with DET and OTT making steps forward, you guys are no longer a lock.

Whatever you think about your goaltending, it got worse.

OTT made steps but are still well behind,Detroit made steps but Husso isn’t proven & idk how they’ll do with so many new additions alot of them are good but Chiarot has me scratching my head in confusion. Let me ask you the big question here , The trade happens who do the Leafs put out with Tavares lets hear it “, who?, Who is available in FA or even our developmental system that fits the Top 6 role of Willy?

You guys aren't missing much and I'm not saying you do, but Severson is better DEFENSIVELY than just about anyone there. Not to mention he brings a physical element you're missing. Remember, you just created maybe the worst goalie tandem in the league. You badly need someone like Severson because on top of everything else I mentioned, he's not too shabby at clearing bodies from the crease.

Devils fan here, listen, comparing Brodie to Severson is really apples and oranges. Brodie I feel was being used in a shut down role with Muzzin. Severson is a very good utility Defenseman and can do a little bit of both. He is definitely more offensive minded. But there games when he was paired with Siegenthaler they shut people down shift after shift.

OTT and DET are tough to read on because they're still developing and we don't know how the new pieces will work as far as chemistry. I agree on Chiarot. IMO he's on par with Jack Johnson, but he hits and can score a little, so people overlook his massive defensive downfalls.

Husso isn't proven, but even if he replicates last season doesn't' mean DET makes the playoffs, but I think the #3 through #6 in your division is really up in the air between Boston, Toronto, Ottawa and DET. You guys have the tools up front and probably make the playoffs, but I just can't call Toronto a lock. If Murray stays healthy and plays at the level he did this past season? Sure, you guys can replicate getting by with below average goaltending, but it's not that easy just because you did it once.

TOR played solid TEAM defense and stuck to the system, but to me you guys need a loaded back-end to have a real shot at getting in to the playoffs and out of the first round.

Two things are incontrovertibly true:

1. Wingers grow on trees, and almost always cheaper than ACGM expects.

2. Good young RHD are rare, and are almost always more expensive than ACGM expects.

If a trade were to happen this year, and included a Severson extension, it’s possible Leafs are adding in a Nylander/Severson swap.

(Also, the love-hate thing that TML fans have had for Severson for years…so strange).

So you’re telling me anyone can find a William Nylander for Cheap & Severson is very rare to find?

I’m honestly confused by your statement are you disagreeing with me or agreeing with me?

I making a general point that top-6 wingers are often easier to find than top-4 RHD
