Team: 2023-24 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 28, 2022
Published: Jul. 28, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Would add another pick for the Seattle trade to happen. Need to flip Barrie for a cheaper, team controlled player.

JP would give Buffalo some more forward depth and they have a ton of picks and will want to show fans they are competitive soon.

Yeah ok bud. He got a Selke vote this year so must be a massive bust. Phenomenal analytics too.

Yeah, I wouldn't be so quick to toss out that he is a bust. Analytics are great for him. I will say, I'm not sure Bouchard would sign for that amount. I love it, just not sure it happens

He might be a bust, but considering half the ACGM’s this year have had their teams acquiring him I think that fan bases actually want him. And a dumpster fire franchise like the Sabres could really use some help.

Bouch is just a bridge deal, term might be a year too long but they need to bridge him even though they really shouldn’t. They’ll get stuck with another Nurse contract after bridging him.

I very much enjoy the way you summed up JP - and the sabres!

Painfully true for Bouch. It'll bite us in the ass one day but it'll be fun until then!

Plays on the top line with the greatest player in the world, no wonder he has great analytics. Sabres dont need to take the chance

Sabres dont need to move a 2nd for a bust. Nor do they need any help.

Not a bust, haven't lived up to potential, kind of in no man's land as a young player right now. Is a 2nd a fair price for him, for sure.
Sabres just have no room. They have about 6-9 players that all fit in that realm. Pretty good, can be great. But who knows.

In all honesty not much different between oilers and sabres. Outside of the elite talent.

If Edmonton and buffalo switched divisions. Might be having totally different conversations. Not that Buffalo was built all that well but they did have some really nice pieces. Id argue that edmonton is not built well at all, they have just been fortunate to draft the best player hockey has ever seen, and made a great choice in drai who turned to be top 5/10. But if buf made the playoffs then who knows the direction things would have gone.

But when you're on the Atlantic there has been boston and Tampa who have dominated the past 10 years, then interchanged Montreal Toronto Florida. Now there is a big 4. Makes making the playoffs pretty tricky. Whereas nobody has been that good in the pacific. The kings for a period, you could argue SJ but doesn't quite match the same fire power the Atlantic has had.

Lively conversation.
Tim Murray set back the rebuild by at least 7 years, giving away picks, prospects for terrible returns (Gorges, Deslauriers and Fasching for three seconds) and terrible drafting (Reinhart over Draisaitl? and Nylander over Sergachev?).
The Sabres can now build around Thompson, Skinner, Dahlin, Mittelstadt, Samuelsson, and Cozens.
IMO Karmanos and Crowe are now directing the trades and drafting respectively.
After three consecutive good drafts the Athletic has ranked their prospect pool as the best in the NHL with Power the #1 ranked prospect.
Receiving excellent returns from the Eichel, Ristolainen and Reinhart trades.
With Granato getting the most of his players, the dumpster fire has been extinguished.

But to the trade, Jesse is certainly worth a second round pick.
It is hard to envision a RW spot for him when Buffalo has Tuch, Hinostroza, Quinn and Okposo.
Since Rasmus Asplund actually received more Selke votes than Puljujarvi It is unlikely that Buffalo would be giving up a second for another defensive forward.
