Prospect swap LD to RD

Created by: GiggywithGibby
Team: 2022-23 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 30, 2022
Published: Jul. 30, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Rangers seems to be completely locked up on right D with Fox and Trouba contracts, and RD prospects in there system will be waiting a long time for a spot. The Ducks meanwhile have a severe backlog on Left D, but are rather light on the right.

Proposed is a good old fashioned hockey trade that serves both teams. Rangers fans, who do you want sent back?
Trades

Offering either Lacombe or Thrun sent back on Left D, other prospects available too. Zelwegger and Mintyukov not available.

Good idea, but if I’m the Rangers it’s Lundkvist vs Zelwegger or no trades

The reports I'm reading say his stock is dropping due to difficulty adjusting front the European to NA game. Zelwegger is 100% not an option. He's our Adam Fox, Lundquist is the guy who lost out on the third RD spot to Schneider.

Zellweger isn't available, at least not for someone like Lundkvist.

With Luneau, Warren, Helleson and Drysdale , the RD should be okay imo

I keep forgetting about Hellerson. He seems like he is the next guy up. Warren and Luneau I think will be a little while before they are ready, and we are going to have a hole at RD after season when Shattenkirk and klingberg are either traded or contracts expire.

I'd like to pick up a good, older RD prospect from a team with a backlog that would be ready to head up this season.

No reason to fill this need by sending out a prospect. We've got two guys that should get traded at the deadline in Shattenkirk and Klingberg. If the Ducks really want to add a younger RHD (and that's a reasonable assumption) then those trades are great opportunities to do so. Just like they added Helleson last TDL. With that said, there is a deadline to get both Thrun and LaCombe signed so if either decides to decline a contract from Anaheim then a trade would be better than letting them walk away.

We also have Ian Moore in the system that you are forgetting it seems. Scott Wheeler of the Athletic sees Moore and LaCombe at about the same level with Thrun being slightly better than both. Just to add an opinion that isn't my own... it's not like I see college kids play that often.

Axel Andersson is another complete mystery as to what's going on with his development. He kind of reminds me of Guhle in that he just can't seem to put it together and stay healthy to take the next step. I have very little hope he pans out any more but we'll see what happens with him this year. Maybe a new coaching staff in San Diego will help out Axel.

Yeah, at this point I assume Axel is an AHL lifer, until he isn't. Moore is also there, but he's younger, I'm looking more into the 22-24 year old guys who are basically ready for the show at this point, but are stuck languishing on teams depth charts because their top 4 are locked in (at least on their side)

But you are probably right, we can target high end prospects in the return for Klingberg and Shatty.
