Also depth scoring has been the death of this team in the playoffs, but personally I'd rely on prospects to fill the gaps.

Depth scoring is a problem for the vast majority of teams. Edmonton had the same issue but they just signed our goalie while we added a guy that Ottawa couldn’t wait to dump.

Engvall doesn’t do anything of note to be worth 2 million dollars in this flat cap era. Jarnkrok is a better player and he makes slightly less. I’m fine with paying Kadri to retire a Leaf. I’d rather have him than Tavares any day. I’m sure Colorado is pretty happy they did that trade

I believe your take on Kadri over Tavares is weighted heavily on recency bias.

Worse than who? Murray? Because that crazy talk bud. Murray is down right awful. If he was remotely useful he’d still be in Pittsburgh

Yeah, Murray is a question mark, but pretending paying an old goalie until he's 37, coming off a pretty terrible playoffs and an injury that helped him be terrible is an even riskier proposition. He's more expensive and the term is dumb. Throw in the fact that you made the forwards so much worse and it isnt even close. this is a worse team

It’s based on the fact that you can’t pay two top line centres 11 million dollars a year and expect to win a cup.

I mean, they have the scoring. They have elite talent up front in Matthews, Marner, Tavares and Nylander. Plus they have Rielly. And obviously in the regular season they are among the top of the league in scoring. They just need to learn how to getter done in the playoffs. As much as it sucks, I don’t think there’s really anything Dubas can do to fix it (maybe adding cup winning experience in Bozak and Kessel would help lol). It just has to be the stars finally coming out and slaying the dragon that is game 7.

Their top core is absolutely legit, their bottom core is without a doubt their Achilles heal.

Washington ran a core featuring Alex Ovechkin, Nik Backstrom, John Carlson, Dmitri Orlov, and Braden Holtby for six years before finally winning in year seven. The secondary core at the beginning of their window featured players such as Alex Semin, Marcus Johansson, Brooks Laich, Dennis Wideman, and Troy Brouwer. When they eventually won, the secondary group was completely replaced by Evgeny Kuznetsov, Tom Wilson, TJ Oshie, Lars Eller, and Matt Niskanen.

By the time Tampa Bay eventually broke through, the Lightning had added players like Yanni Gourde, Blake Coleman, and Barclay Goodrow, while Erik Cernak and Mikhail Sergachev matured into significant contributors. If we want to look at the Tampa Bay teams from the beginning of the decade that featured Steven Stamkos and Victor Hedman (along with players like Alex Killorn, Ondrej Palat, and Tyler Johnson) as the original core, by the time they won, Brayden Point and Alexei Vasilevskiy were developed as well. In essence, they added to their primary core and their secondary core.

If you think Tavares is overpaid for what he provides now, you're not gonna like Kadri at 7 million through his 30s. Definitely doesn't get Toronto closer to the cup.

Kadri is worth 7 million. JT is not worth 11 million. It’s really that simple

Kadri has one season in his entire career that was worth 7 million, and he's not doing it again.

you're the one making up stories on the internet about multiple people being one person just so you can pretend less people disagree with you. Maybe you should take your own advice. Or is everyone else in this thread also me?

Hopefully a few of those bottom 6 guys break out a little offensively because yah, it’s definitely lacking scoring wise (it’s a good shutdown 3rd line, but they probably won’t score too much). I think it comes down to if some guys can break out like Robertson or Holmberg. If they can get a few guys to break out a bit, the top 6 should be enough to carry them.
