The loss of JT will forever destroy any credit snow might deserve. But add on the ladd signing along with striking out on 3 5oa picks. He had 4 top 5 picks and only hit on 1 of them (tavares) which isnt a surprise considering 1oa is very rarely a bust. Theres only been 1 real bust at 1oa since JT (yakupov).

I get goalscoring is the Isles weakness, but defense isn't a strength. Sorokin is a strength. Varlamov is a strength. Pulock and Pelech are a strength. Barzal at times is a strength. The rest of the roster? Not so much

You can’t fake your way to the ECF. Even if it’s time to rebuild this team has valuable pieces left. That defense had Leddy and Toews at one point. Romanov looks like a good add. Doesn’t mean Mayfield isn’t good tho lol.

Mayfield is a 3rd pairing guy on a playoff team. That's the issue. He's a very good 3rd pairing guy, I'm not taking anything away from him, but he's a lot like Trevor van Riemsdyk. Very good in a 3rd pairring role, can play top 4 in a pinch, but shouldn't really.
