The Leafs and MLSE have a bunch of high priced executives. Shanahan and his execs seemed to be "Missing in Action" during contract negotiations. Obviously contract negotiations is not a strong point for Dubas but I blame total Leaf management for not getting more reasonable deals for some players. Other comparables were out there but for some reason the Leafs paid a "hometown premium"

Had the pandemic not forced the cap to stay flat, they would have an extra 3-6 million to work with. Your statement is flat wrong.

It's really not far off. Gibson hasn't been good for 4 years.

You better hope playing for Trotz doesn't help goalies stats as he's gone

Matthews and Dubas said longer term was discussed but the average would have been higher and they compromised. Matthews said at the time he loves it in TO and wants to stay. Next summer he'll resign on an 8 year deal. And everyone will have to come up with a new reason why TO will never be good despite them being really good.

I think he resigns, but could see another 5 year deal which gives him option to sign one more deal - maybe back in ‘zona or down south. I would prefer 8 years, but would be ok with that.

Some argue that goalie play is fairly independent of teams. You seem to be arguing it's dependent on teams. As your team has had great goaltending for for 4 straight years. That happens to coincide with one of the best defensive coaches of his generation being your coach. If those who argue coach's/teams strongly influence goalie play were right I'd be nervous as an islanders fan

Reread those reports again. Canes shot down Kapanen for Pesce, not Nylander. Carolina asked for Nylander + (I maintain that was the right decision) and Dubas balked. Are you going to add to make it worth it? Because there's a less than 0% chance Waddell would do this now

I don’t think it’s a system thing. I think it’s about the talent in front of him. NYI didn’t have great d men last year and Soroky and Varly were good. Systems only work if u have talented players. Otherwise they r Bs.

It really is. Gibson has been a bottom 3 starting goalie in the league for 3+ years now. Every single stat yiu could dream of shows it. The only thing gibson has over murray in a good while is health

Playing for ottawa doesnt? And goalies save about the same amount of shots on a good or a bad team. Bad teams just allow more. Gibson has allowed a much higher percentage of those shots over the past 3 seasons

Gibson was good this year before Anaheim traded Lindholm and Manson… I’m sure that impacted him

Murray was bettet this season before he got hurt. And gibson had those guys the past 2 years+ before. Any goalie can have a good partial season.

I trust murray to be better, but i trust gibson to be healthier. If murray cant get over his concussion woes, it wouldnt matter if he was as good as prime hasek when healthy

Goalies r weird tbh. But I’d still put Gibson in my top ten nhl goalies tbh.

Well at this point he's been real real bad about as long as he was real real good, it's not impossible he finds his game, but the late 20s is when time starts to catch up with everyone, i just dont think it's likely

Ryan Miller’s reputation was better than his play for a long time in Buffalo so I get ur point. I just feel that whenever I watch Gibson he looks good. Idk man lol. Sometimes with goalies I just trust my gut because they r too ****ing weird to figure out with analytics lol

So two seasons? While playing in Ottawa, where his stats have been comparable to Gibson minus when he got hurt the year before last. Also Murray was better than Campbell in the 2nd half of last season before getting hurt. So tell me, how does playing with Ottawa not hurt a guy but playing for Anaheim makes it excusable?
