I don’t think there is a possible way that Monahan plays that well

Edmonton cannot take on price's LTIR. Klefbom and smith are off the books next year. Being in LTIR thus far has limited edmonton's ability to load up at the trade deadline.

Price is owed 23.5 mil and puts a team in LTIR for 3 years. Wait until the bonus overages Montreal fans. Price will be on Montreal's LTIRetired list for the next 4 years, costing them 30+ mil cash, bonus overages each season and 0 room at the trade deadline if they ever become good again.

Rental forwards traded for a 1st at/near last year's TDL:

-Tyler Toffoli (37 GP, 9-17-26 at the time of the trade, $4.25M cap hit): 0.70 pts/GP
-Claude Giroux (57 GP, 18-24-42, retained down to $4.137M cap hit): 0.74 pts/GP
-Andrew Copp (56 GP, 13-22-35, $3.64M): 0.63 pts/GP

So, even if we are a little generous with his lower cap hit after retention ($3.1M), Sean Monahan would probably have to be scoring at a 0.6 pts/GP pace to get a team to give up a 1st rounder for him.

Not insane to think it's possible, but also not something he's done since 2019-20 - and not something I'd be willing to bet on for a guy who's coming off his second major hip injury in his career. He was already showing a ton of decline *before* he got hurt, so it's hard to see him bouncing back this hard.

And for what it's worth, it feels like some Habs fans are getting downright greedy. You already got a 1st with Sean Monahan! No other player has ever been dumped with a 1st *and* traded for a 1st rounder in the same calendar year(in that order) so just be happy with the idea that you might get *something* back for a broken down bottom-6 center and stop acting like people are being ridiculous when they say Monahan's not worth a 1st.

This is a best case scenario ACGM, and i see where you are comming from. But I do think Monahan can get a decent bounce back. Will it net a first rounder? Probably not. Is it a possibility? Yes.

if he can play good defense and puts up something like 25ish points in 55 GP before the deadline? I definitely think someone takes a shot at him. But it's going to take a miracle to get a 1st coming & going with him.

COL isn’t trading their 23 1st at all. Monahan is stylistically a bad fit for COL and COL wouldn’t trade for him. COL right now at the deadline would have like $14M in cap space they aren’t paying for retention. It is freaking hilarious that MTL fans think a dude that CGY dumped and added a 1st to do it, is somehow going to resurrect himself and met them another 1st rd pick. If anybody and even remotely thought Monahan was going to do anything they could have gotten him and a 2nd rd pick straight from CGY.

I think Habs could unload Price next offseason as cap isn't rising much and teams are looking for space.LTIR gives some breathing room to these contenders

I think MTL keeps him, just in case he can come back when we might be good again. Could you imagine Carey Price coming back from injury in 3-4 years, behind what might be a decent team, and win his Stanley Cup !

And I woke up

You also have to take into consideration that those three players listed were also good in previous years. Monahan hasnt been good for a while now
