Gauging Value

Created by: PHILLYSZN
Team: 2022-23 Philadelphia Flyers
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 19, 2022

Description
The Flyers are a mess. If I took over as GM right now, I would want to gauge the value on just about every single player on the roster. So what I’ve done is given my personal benchmark value for each player.

Comment below any counter offers, and make sure to be honest about whether the return for a player is too high or too low.
Trades
1.
PHI
  1. 2023 5th round pick (MIN)
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (MIN)
MIN
  1. van Riemsdyk, James ($3,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Assuming JVR reaches the 20-goal mark yet again. Deadline at 50% retained.
2.
PHI
  1. Kuhlman, Karson
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (WPG)
  3. 2023 3rd round pick (SEA)
3.
PHI
  1. Kupari, Rasmus
  2. 2023 1st round pick (LAK)
  3. 2024 3rd round pick (LAK)
4.
PHI
  1. Roulette, Conner [Reserve List]
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (DAL)
DAL
  1. Hayes, Kevin ($2,392,857 retained)
Additional Details:
If a young star like Bedard/Fantilli is drafted and signed to a 3-year ELC, that allows an exact window to retain $2.4M of Hayes until both his contract and the star’s ELC would expire. Dallas gets Hayes at $4.75M.
5.
EDM
  1. Laughton, Scott
Additional Details:
Edmonton gets a grittier player that brings a playoff presence and can play center or wing. On a deep Oiler team, Laughton should improve on his 30-point 2021-22 season.
6.
PHI
  1. Mikkola, Niko
  2. 2023 1st round pick (STL)
  3. 2024 2nd round pick (STL)
STL
  1. Sanheim, Travis ($2,337,500 retained)
Additional Details:
Deadline at 50% retained. Assuming Sanheim extends with STL.
7.
PHI
  1. Wahlstrom, Oliver
  2. 2023 1st round pick (NYI)
8.
9.
PHI
  1. 2023 5th round pick (ANA)
10.
PHI
  1. 2023 3rd round pick (MTL)
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (MTL)
11.
PHI
  1. 2023 3rd round pick (TBL)
TBL
  1. Braun, Justin ($500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Deadline at 50% retained. Ridiculously cheap depth option for any contender.

Your value on DesLauriers is right.

I think that your value* on Konecny is in the ballpark, but now that the Kings have landed Kevin Fiala, Los Angeles isn't a likely destination for him anymore -- when Viktor Arvidsson ages out, the Kings envision Arthur Kaliyev taking his place. *An A prospect (probably a forward) plus a first, but inasmuch as Kupari is one of only two right-handed forwards on the Kings, I don't see him specifically being part of a Konecny trade.

Cap considerations aside, the Kings would give up a similar package to the one you have here for Ivan Provorov. Under current conditions, you'd have to take Alex Iafallo back to make the Los Angeles roster cap-compliant.

None of these proposals looks out of line to me. Nice job.

You aren't close on the Edmonton deal. The only reason to move Puljujarvi is for cap purposes, and this isn't that. Puljujarvi has 10x the upside that Laughton has and the Oilers are already loaded with C/L players who are better than Laughton. There's no reason for them to entertain this idea.

No thanks from LA. We don't have the cap, even if we wanted to send a 1st and Kupari (which I don't).

Gotcha. You have any counter for a Laughton return?

Regardless of trade values, the number of retained players in trades is 1 too many so you got pick one out of the lot and you're way under the minimum salary cap too so none of this works if the goal was to remain realistic.

No, I don't think Edmonton would be interested in him.

I think Hayes has value at 4.75, lots of people underrate him because of the contract but he is a very solid 2C, just overpaid.
Atkinson maybe gets a bit less because his deal is a lot to take on
Otherwise these look pretty solid to me

This isn’t a normal Armchair GM. This is just laying out value/returns for each individual player. Obviously if it was legit you wouldn’t trade every single one of these players and you would also likely package some together. Plus like you said, can only retain on three at a time.

Minnesota declines. We don't have room and cap
