Not sure why Boston would trade Pasta even if they are out at the deadline. I know he’s an expiring UFA, but if the teams wants him and he wants to be in Boston…those situations usually get resolved.

Tons of teams, That's a pretty poor offer for Pasta. it would cost a 2nd round pick alone to move Lucic. So it's basically just Pelletier for Pasta.

if colorado or edmonton get that desperate to win a cup i could easily see them out bidding.

retention wouldn't bother boston anyways come TDL as is would be pro-rated meaning though boston retains "3.33 mill" at 50% that only affects the salary cap for that much boston would only be paying him around 750k to be on another team. for the rest of the season which is around 42 days post TDL

ya like i understand he is a UFA but he could still return atleast 60-70% of his max value and maybe more if a team gets that desperate. Pasta is a game changer and would give a team significantly better odds at winning the cup

Take out Looch. Add mid level 3rd piece….at minimum. Coranato preferred to Pelletier.

If you take out Lucic, then the cap doesn't work for Calgary. You can put Coronato or Pelletier, it doesn't really matter at this point, we get a quality prospect that's the most important.

You said TDL. Flames are not taking his full cap hit at the deadline. Cap is calculated daily. It’s only about 30 days of his cap hit.

Take any team in on Kane, and add to w.e acgm has been posted. If I'm Boston, I only do this is Mangi and Weeger are involved.
It's the real Pasta, not some chickpea b.s. Naturally Mackinnon bans him from the team.

Calgary should have enough cap for Pasta at the deadline. It will be harder if Milano signs for much more than 1M.

I made a post a little while back about a potential Pasta addition at the deadline here. Since then Zary had a very strong rookie tournament, he was definitely the best play prospect there, even over Pelletier. IMO this would be a much more suitable return than the one above

Since when did deadline rentals return multiple core player? That's counterproductive.

The thing with Pastrnak is unless another clear playoff team has a major season ending injury on an expensive player Calgary is one of the few contenders that could realistically afford him (or Kane) at the deadline through accrued cap space.

If Pasta gets shopped at all it's because of 2 things. 1. Boston is not really competing, and 2. Pasta isn't willing to sign an extension. This will lead to the Bruins very likely looking to rebuild instead. And they would probably much prefer futures than short term band-aids like Mange.

I can't see Calgary including Coronato for a rental. It's impossible for them to extend Pasta so dealing away his potential replacement would be bad. The Flames have strong center depth now so Zary would likely be available, and considering Boston's lack of center prospects and aging vets the returned interest would make sense. Im also quite confident Zary is going to explode this year in the AHL. He looked electric in the prospect games, definitely the best player on the team

I agree, can’t see Flames including Coronato in a deadline deal with no assurance beyond this year

It's not going to cost a second at the deadline to move Lucic. If Boston is out they have no issues taking him to make the cap work. If Calgary wanted to dump him now or would cost at least a second.

I was referring to now, not at the trade deadline. I agree it wouldn't cost a 2nd to move Lucic later.

However I do think they will be one of the teams in on Pasta and Kane but will inevitably end up with JVR

Maybe. Really depends on how Boston does this year. I think they will be playing catch up all season due to injuries.

To me it's different from the Gaudreau situation because last year Calgary was 1st in the Pacific and looking like a true contender. They couldn't afford to move him without jeopardizing their cup chance. With Pasta if the writing on the wall is still uncertain about extending or not moving him would probably be the best way to kickstart their eventual rebuild. Unlike Bergeron, Marchand, and Krejci, Pasta hasn't actually won the cup yet so I could definitely see him looking for a new home in the summer with an up-and-coming/contending team
