Why is Edmonton paying a high end prospect to downgrade the roster? That's a very very easy pass.

The Caps have far too many forwards as it is, and with the emergence of prospects like Protas and Snively, there isn't a need for another middle 6 forward like Pitlick in DC.

-Edmundson is coming off a year where he missed 2/3 of the season with a back injury and is now sidelined indefinitely with a "lower back injury" that no one will confirm is related to last year's injury or not. Let's get him on the ice before you're swapping him for another top 4 D *and* a top prospect, because right now the value is just not there.

-Toronto has internal options to replace Kerfoot if they even have to move him; with the Tavares injury they're less pressed to get under the cap right now and can kick that can down the road instead of sacrificing whatever pick they'd need to get the Monahan contract double-retained (while also downgrading significantly from Kerfoot to Monahan).

-Pitlick is going to have to maintain his production through February to still be in a "sell high" mode - it's highly unlikely he shoots 23% again this year, so more than likely you're moving him out for a 4th/5th rounder if you trade him.

-Sure, probably fair value for that package? Scheuneman brings really no value to a trade at this point, though - every team has like, 3 of these guys bouncing between the AHL & NHL so unless David Poile really likes him, I don't see him being a guy that Nashville needs to include in this deal.
