My notes after game 1 and game 2 lines

Created by: Brad_Treliving
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 13, 2022
Published: Oct. 13, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Notes:
- Terrible of a signing for Jarnkrok, no idea why Dubas decided to give this guy 4 years. What does he bring?
- Loved the fourth line
- Matt Murray is already turning into a non-option, especially with not being able to use his glove. Teams are taking notes and will know where to aim when they play against him. Overall, terrible showcasing and performance
- Matthews and Marner were invisible, I thought they would learn after four first round exits
- The second line was terrible, nothing was created when they were on the ice and Denis Malgin does not work. Anyone could score that tap in goal, even Nick Ritchie unfortunately
- How long does Sheldon Keefe have as a coach? Should have been canned a long time ago especially after putting Muzzin-Holl back together and thinking it still works
- Also, why is Muzzin-Holl still a thing? We tried it years ago and it hasn't worked. We are in 2022
- Why is Kerfoot still on this team and why does Dubas have a fetish for him?

Marner played well and Mathews had 5 shots, the Habs young D wasn't as much of a pushover as some fans thought they would be. I think a lot of people on here forget that every guy on the ice on any given night are all in the NHL for a reason, so when they see a lineup of 4 rookie D men they think the game is going to be an easy win but as was shown last night as long as they do their jobs they have the talent to play with anyone.

Jordan Harris taught Denis Malgin a lesson with that big hit, he told him to keep his head up

Ah yes, one bad game and Leafs nation is throwing every player under the bus. Love it

Dubas and the gang are riding the horse they rode in on.

As long as half your cap is in 4 forwards and those 4 forwards play every third shift, you have a bargain basement forward corps. The defense is old and looking it.

No rookie forward (not 26 yr old bunting) has made the squad in three seasons, pluggers like NAK and ZAR are nice to have, but offer little. Not a single waiver exempt player on the roster, and no cap space for one. either the development team or drafting team need to take a look in the mirror. The only youth on the team is 4th yr pros liljegren and sandin.

1.4mil will need to come off cap when liljegren is healthy and without moving a 2mil+ player (holl doesn;t cut it) this shallow team wins 5-4 or loses 4-5 and tanks again in playoffs.

Just checked the standings and the record says
0-1-0 preseason means nothing. Last year means nothing.

isnt robertson a rookie? and i thought that that guy u drafted in 2nd round recently would make the team (left winger 6ft3)

robertson didnt make the team and there isn;t cap for him.

Leafs finished 21-22 with a team average age of 27.5 yrs old, they start 22-23 the second oldest team in the league at 29.3 yrs old (behind capitals and ahead of pens)

Theyll win next game 5-2 or 6-3, but ultimately its about honest evaluation of whether this team through 82 games will be as good as 21-22 and have better results in the playoffs. I think this years team has alot more questions than last year, more age, and alot more pressure from mgmt down.

If anyone in here thinks this first game is an outlook to come of the season, just watch a different team. The Leafs will make the playoffs like always and then they really need to fight for that extra gear. One more year of coming up short leads to massive changes in the team. I am not worried though. I have faith. I have the passion!

I’d rather just say:

1st line was mostly invisible.
2nd line looked ok but expect more, malign was serviceable
3rd line looked lost at times
4th line actually was pretty good

1st pair wasn’t good, Rielly was trying to play forward
2nd pair was horrible and Muzz and Holl should never be considered as a possible pairing
3rd pair was ok, Gio looked decent

Murray: was ok but his glove high is terrible
