Description
Is this something STL fans would be interested in?

No idea what the value of Barbashev is, but I’ve always like him as a player. I think based off of past seasons (excluding last year) he could be had for cheap. Was last year a one off, or his he capable of being a consistent 50 point player.

Not much difference between the two actually, except for cap & future cap. Remove the 1st & STL should still decline

He only takes like 30 faceoffs a game and almost averaged a PPG on a non-playoff team. I'd expect the canucks to allow for an attempt at a contract extension as well which would probably increase the trade cost by a lil.

I think the only fit for Horvat in STL - unless there are some catastrophic injuries - would be in the summer as a UFA if they move on from ROR and Barbashev. Really good player, not sure the price could be justified for a rental.

As for Barbashev, it's tricky. He's always been a reliable, versatile player but I think last year's production was an anomaly. He shot 23% so I'd expect some regression on the goal totals, but it was also the first time he's really gotten to play higher in the lineup and not buried in his own zone as a 4C. If he gets the same usage as last season, I say he can put up 20-28-48 or so. Whoever signs him in the summer might be getting a risky contract, but he's got a few good years left in him and he's a useful player even if he isn't getting 60 pts.

Great insight, thanks!

We don't really need an upgrade on our forward core at the moment. Also we won't be able to sign both ROR and Horvat in the offseason so it's a pretty expensive rental for us in an area that's is not much of a need.

Love where you're head is at, especially assuming ROR and Tarasenko are gone. Schenn can slide over to LW and assuming we can extend Horvat that's a big W.

I question if Barbashev would re-sign in Vancouver though, so without a young player going to Van under team control or additional assets, I don't think a 1st round pick is nearly enough for the Canucks to do this deal.
