I've been saying it for years. Marner is not worth his cap. No way should he paid as a top 10 player. Now on CapFriendly why have hundreds, maybe thousands of posts when a player isn't worth his contract...or negative value, his trade value is very low.
Now Voracheck for Marner might be a fair trade, if the CBJ think they can get value for Marner in the remaining 2.5 years of his contract. But to add the cost efficient Sillinger, Peeke and a first, fantasy for the Leafs.

Very weak negotiating by Dubas and the Leafs executives. Players and teams try to base their negotiations on comparables (you would think) In Marner's contract year, he and Carolina's Aho, came up for their first RFA contracts. Check it out, both players had IDENTICAL stats for the two previous seasons. Aho signed an offer sheet, matched by Carolina for a 8.5m X 5 contract. Marner got almost 11m X 6. Leafs just gave away 2m or so for no apparent reason. Even Matthews getting the second highest paid player for a five year contract wasn't justified.

Jackets don’t need wingers. Their top 6 wingers for the future is set. They need shutdown defenseman or a legit 1C

I’d say they probably need both, they might also be looking for a new number 1 goalie too.

Marner was overpaid because TML overpaid for Tavares the year before and Marner beated his production the following season (94 pts vs 88). Dubas painted himself in a corner...

It's all about the pyjama curse.

Laine, Johnny, KJ takes 3 of the top 4 spots. One of marchenko, texier, chinakhov can take the last spot. Marner would be nice but not for the cap space or assets required to get him. There are much bigger needs that need addressed. Getting bedard (won’t happen) would make this team a cup contender if the defense gets sorted out

I wasn’t talking about the wings…. We have plenty of wings. We need both a top line center and a number one defenseman. I’d also be considering a goalie if Elvis can’t get it figured out or if the off ice issues force him to leave.

I think tarasov is the goalie of the future but it’s almost impossible to evaluate goaltending with how bad the defense is.

Well, I disagree. Leafs had no obligation to pay comparables to a UFA Tavares .....Aho was the comparable. But somehow, Marner and his negotiating team, convinced Leafs management, the comparison was Tavares. Yeah it might be the Tavares curse, but again the Leafs management could have said no to anything above 9m X 6 years, and really nothing Marner couldn't done anything about it except not sign and magically hope for a offer sheet. Dubas and the high priced executives somehow believe in a "hometown premium"

His mental issues and PTSD, as well as the issues his wife and family have had at the games recently. This was from the last couple of days.
