Evans alone at $1.7M for 3 years is worth more than a 3rd. Dumping Barrie for 2 years also comes at a price. For reference, dumping Monahan (1x$6.3M) cost a 1st to Calgary.

You may want to revisit your offer.

No problem. Then trade him to another team and come back when you have cap space.

Edmonton is legitimately scouting Jake Evans for a trade involving Barrie.

I didn't make this trade. I'd gladly keep Barrie over Evans. I don't think Edmonton needs a 4C so badly.

Montreal would need to carry his contract for this year as well as next year. That's two.

Edmonton wants a right shot center for faceoffs.

So, a Derek Ryan replacement. That shouldn't cost Barrie + 3rd.

FYI Ryan is a lot better at faceoffs, just bring him back at $775k.

Some people can read dates apparently. Perhaps "23-24" is spelled differently in French? awesome face

Monahan was less of a dump than Barrie.

"Dumping" Barrie will cost at least a 1st this year, maybe a 2nd if it's done next summer and he only have 1 year left.

Unless Montreal was a contender with an anemic PP, there is no point from time the 2023 cup is awarded to the 2024 trade deadline that this trade would make sense for Montreal.

Barrie is a perennial 50 point RHD who had a net positive effect in 8 of the past 9 years, and is doing it again this season. There aren't any other defensemen in the league who can say the same for less than Barrie's $4.5M.

dont see any logically reason MTL would move Evans where the main piece coming back is Barrie. Edmonton can be scouting, but Barrie is a 3rd for evans would be a mistake for montreal.

Barrie is a small 31 years old 3rd pairing D with alot of defensive issues on a 4.5M contract.

He's played top-4 all his life and his defensive issues are vastly overblown. He's been a positive contributor in 8 if his past 9 years and is doing so again this year (6-3 goals at 5v5 so far). He's not a cap dump.

That's certainly not true based on what I've seen. Its certainly not true based on his sheltered usage and truly awful defensive and net 5v5 impacts.

He absolutely is outscoring this season - he's 6-3 on-ice goals so far at 5v5. It's a tiny sample size, but when viewed against the backdrop of the past decade of results, it's more of the same.

In 8 of the past 9 seasons, and again so far this year, Barrie's teams have had a better 5v5 GF% when he was on the ice compared to when he was on the bench. That's a "net positive" player, whether you chose to accept it or not.

Here's how much better Barrie's teams have been with him than without him:

20132014 COL: +9.58 GF%
20142015 COL: +9.91
20152016 COL: +3.05
20162017 COL: +2.96
20172018 COL: +5.26
20182019 COL: +4.73
20192020 TOR: -1.60
20202021 EDM: +4.77
20212022 EDM: +6.27
20222023 EDM: +18.84

That's an insane spend on a 4C. Montreal should take that and run.

I get that you're PC approved, but he doesn't work for the Oilers anymore and hasn't foe quite a while. Time to tune into the new administration, friend.
