Legitimate shot at 1st overall

Created by: herzausstein
Team: 2022-23 Nashville Predators
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 11, 2022
Published: Nov. 11, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This team has been legitimately bad. With a slight tweak, we could have a real shot at 1st overall pick
Trades
1.
NSH
  1. Foegele, Warren
  2. Puljujärvi, Jesse
  3. 2023 1st round pick (EDM)
  4. 2023 2nd round pick (EDM)
  5. 2024 2nd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Foegele and puljujarvi are basically warm bodies. Puljujarvi is underforming on a high offense team... thats something Nashville could use in the race to the bottom. Id prefer to get a 2nd 1st round pick but dont want to be too greed here.
EDM
  1. Jeannot, Tanner
  2. Niederreiter, Nino
Additional Details:
Nino is performing really well on a team thats sucking. This package gives edmonton grit and skill.
2.
NSH
  1. Compher, J.T.
  2. Francouz, Pavel
  3. 2023 1st round pick (COL)
  4. 2025 2nd round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Francouz has been lackluster this season and georgiev has been good. Dump the worse of the two and pick up another center to help beef up that already formidable group.
COL
  1. Granlund, Mikael
  2. Lankinen, Kevin ($750,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Lankinen is doing a decent job of stopping the puck and granlund is putting up assists like he wants 60 of them this season. Cant have that
3.
NSH
  1. Barrie, Tyson
  2. 2024 1st round pick (EDM)
EDM
  1. Fabbro, Dante
  2. Tolvanen, Eeli
Additional Details:
Had to come back for that 1st

Are you including Francouz in the COL deal because you want him or you think it adds value to the trade to COL? Just curious. I don't think Francouz has played that poorly. He gave up 5 goals to a strong CGY team on a COL back to back. Gave up 3 to SEA and only 1 to NJD (a game we still lost).

But I would consider a deal involving Granlund for the 2023 1st though.

About half the western conference is tanking but we can be the best of the worst

I think Francouz would be an ok backup for saros and the extra year of contract is helpful. Lankinen has been extremely strong this season while saros has been ok. The way things are going Lankinen is going to play himself out of our price range for next season and we still need a capable backup as i dont think askarov will be ready. I think francouz has some value just not a ton.

Far from realistic but, with the exception of including the 2nd in 2023 (change it to a prospect or the 2025 2nd), I'd be quite tempted by both EDM trades. While it comes at a great cost, it addresses a number of key issues.

I don’t love this for Colorado. The difference between Granlund/Compher and Francouz/Lankinen is not 2 top 60 picks.

COL isn’t trading a 1st for Granlund much less a bunch of other stuff. COL is comfortable with Francouz and I don’t think Lankinen is an upgrade.

Fair enough. My evaluation on francouz and lankinen is based on this season so far alone. Francouz has a better body of work (results) overall but hasnt been great this season. Lankinen does have more experience and has played well for a team that has not played well.

I would say that compher to granlund is a boost production wise at minimal additional cap. Granlund only earns and additional 1 5M compared to compher. Granlund also has a few years on contract while compher will need an extension at the end of the season. Not sure if he will get a raise as the 3-3,5M range seems right. Compher gets more goals while granlund seems to like being a distributor/playmaker.

You are likely right about being a bit heavy handed on the picks.
