Sure, Canes take it. They need the depth with Teuvo and Pacioretty out.

I don't understand. Why do Canucks fans want to continue with same high priced guys that have really led them nowhere. Trade Horvat for assets, and use the cap wisely next summer (shoulda done that with Miller too.)

Don't see how a 2m, 20m a night RHD is a cap dump. No thanks from the Leafs. Now you might get an OK return for Schenn, but it makes no sense for the Leafs (or really any team) to just exchange RHD. And you want Niemela too?happy

Holl's not really a cap dump. He's a bottom-pair RHD who can hold his own on the middle pair if you need him there. $2M is a totally acceptable cap hit for a guy like that.

There's also less of a need for the Leafs to free up cap in the near future if Muzzin's going to be LTIR the rest of the season. They're obviously not accruing cap space, but they've got ~$5M to play with right now without having to make any other moves.

Rathbone is included in this deal, he's a really high regarded defense prospect. I figured with Leafs' commitment to Liljegren, Niemela is exposable, and Canucks commitment to Hughes, Rathbone is. A good swap for teams who have needs for younger guys on opposite hands. Schenn is a better player than Holl for half the price, and the Leafs need cap space. Here is Rathbone's DB if you're interested: https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=201640

Holl's contract is very moveable but Schenn is better than Holl and is cheaper. Niemela for Rathbone is a fair deal but Niemela is a righty which is worth more on the open market and the difference of Holl and Schenn should be enough to bridge that gap in value (that may or may not exist).

Rathbone is a LHD....not needed by the Leafs. Reilly, Sandin, Giordano, Benn and other play the left side Niemela is about the RHD prospect the Leafs have. Liljgren and almost two years of Brodie on the right side. Niemela has a spot in two years...welll if he's good enough.

I might agree with a Holl for Schenn might be welcomed by the Leafs...if only for the cap. But despite the criticism of Holl, he plays 20m a night, and lots of PK time. Schenn plays the least amount of time for a RHD for the Canucks...,and has a the worse minus of the RHD. Now I know stats are iffy comparisons, and even the eye test is questionable, but is Schenn that good compared to Holl? Holl is at least a middle ranked Dman on the 5th team in the East, and 8th in overall GAA. If Schenn is a middle ranked or lower Dman on the Canucks, is he really better than Holl?

Reiterating what was said, Rathbone does nothing for the Leafs now, and there really isn't and place for him in the future either with Reilly and Sandin. He's also ready enough to try to try crack an NHL roster. On the other hand, Niemela should have a spot when he's ready.

And Schenn isn't really better than Holl, he's just playing above his paygrade at this moment, and while Holl is struggling to pay above his, but Schenn isn't going to come to Toronto and be able to play 20 minutes and do well.

I'm amazed that so many Leaf fans, and some many Leafs, constantly thinking Leafs bottom wingers are so bad, and that by exchanging them with bottom end wingers from non playoff teams is the solution for the Leafs. Now I admit I've been frustrated by Holl by at times this season, by geez wanna make a change and give up a premium too, it better be an improvement.
