If Meier came with that contract, the Sharks could probably get a way nicer package. He won't though.

If Meier signs at $7.1m, Devils offer...

    1 a '23 first -- 2023 1st round pick (NJD)
2 an B or higher level prospect -- Reilly Walsh
    3 a B-C level prospect -- Chase Stillman
    4 a mid round sweetener -- 2024 3rd round pick (NJD)

Agree. There's no way Meier is going to accept anything less than $8m

I feel people are way undervaluing Meier, especially people who don't regularly watch him. His value is likely Coutourier (7.75) on the low end and Barzal (9.15) on the (very) high end. Anything under 8 would be a dream. And a return should realistically be a 1st and an A level prospect, or two B level prospects.

People put way too much value in their unproven prospects. Sure, someone like Holtz COULD get to, or exceed the level of Meier, but it's not likely. And a mid/late round first is a moonshot to reach that level, and really has a small chance of being a top 4 D/top 6 forward. On the other hand a guaranteed/proven first line power forward like Meier is very valuable.
