Or Holl. Or Engvall. But SOMETIMES Nylander.

At least you're making an attempt at a sensible offer. Some Blues fans may jump at it, but I'd have to pass, thanks. We're still using our captain.

I just think it undermines the value of the package that Toronto would be offering. Having to send Kerfoot back to make the money work is more or less equivalent to asking St. Louis to retain $3.5M in cap for you for the rest of the season. If they're moving ROR, another team can come in with a similar offer (prospect/1st/2nd) and throw in a 4th or something for the retention and beat this without really giving up much of anything.

It would make more sense to try and flip out Kerfoot for an asset to another contending team, and in turn also lower the cost of acquiring a player like ROR because, at the very least, you're asking for less retention from St. Louis.

But you have to remember, he is also the Blues captain and similar to Giroux, they could do right by the player and move him to a team that he wants to go to

I mean, sure, but I just think that's not something you could potentially count on in a deal. If he was older and on his last legs, or didn't have a Cup, I could see them flipping him to a contender of his choice to let him play what might be his last season in his hometown. But he's still young enough and playing well enough that he probably has another 4-5 year contract in him before he hits that point of his career arc.

yes but they could also flip him for more assets. its not like he has to stay there until the contract expires.

try again. O'Reilly has been one of the best defensive forwards even shutdown Mackinnon all series last year and very much did the same for McDavid and Draisaitl this season. Knies isn't God so I guess agree to not make a trade.

O'Reilly isn't on the block unless St Louis struggles to get back into the playoff places. Horvat seems like a much better option for the Leafs given how they've struggled to score/finish this season.

If I'm Doug Armstrong, and you gave me this explanation, my first question would be asking you how much you're going to pay me for doing your job
