That defence looks almost as bad as ours. (Canucks)
Maybe trade for Ekholm.

-Terrible offer for Mayfield. Kral is a middling prospect at best, and a pair of late-round picks are really not valuable. Mayfield is a solid 19-20 minute a night guy who can play top 4 without killing you and is a luxury as RD3 - the ask for the Isles (if they're even moving them) should be the Josh Manson package: a 2nd and a good prospect. If the acquiring team wants the Isles to retain down to $725K, turn the 2nd into a 1st or the good prospect into a very good prospect, and let's talk. Pass on this, though.

-I can't see the Flyers eating $12M over the next 4 years for just a 2023 1st, much less actually giving you Kevin Hayes and throwing in Deslauriers.

-Can't see the Leafs paying for Nick Ritchie less than a year after they paid to get rid of Nick Ritchie. Timmins is okay, I guess, but I don't know if he's really any more valuable than a guy like Victor Mete, and not really worth giving up assets for if that's the case.

Exactly the players the Leafs need, too bad Dubas will fill them with more Kerfeets, Mete's and Malgins type playersat the deadline

I agree with all of this except the salary retention part. Covering that little salary doesn't cost more than a 5th Rd pick.

But NYI should definitely look for the Manson return. And I don't doubt that 2nd could potentially become a first with conditions of signing/depending how far a team goes. He's good defensively, big, right-handed, and costs essentially nothing on the cap. Should be a bidding war. In a game where the Leafs kind of dominated, Mayfield still looked great. This of course is predicated on the NYI moving him.

Exactly, like when he brought in Muzzin, Bogosian, Benn, Simmonds, ZAR and Aube-Kubel! The guy only acquires small wingers. And that isn't even mentioning the tiny, and poor Defensively Giordano, and Kampf. What kind of GM only ever brings in small skilled forwards.

Yeah, I could see the packaging being 2nd/prospect/mid-rounder for a retained Mayfield being the most realistic place it settles, but I also can see a world where someone really falls in love and just bumps it up to a 1st. The first package is more likely but weirder things have happened than a GM overpaying for a big, physical Dman at the deadline. If I'm the one trading him, I push hard for that but am fine settling for just an additional pick.

If I'm the Leafs the offer would be conditional 2nd (turns into 2024 1st if Leafs make the Eastern final and/or the player resigns), Hirvonen or Holmberg, and a 4th. I think that's a fair deal. But again does NYI want to move him? They might get more, or they might just like the prospects more from another team. Prospects can have equal enough value, but a team might just like one more another.
