Glad you mentioned the Giroux trade. How did that work out for Panthers? I'd be hard pressed to think of any trades for a UFA that helped a team to reach the Cup finals

I imagine management being very protective of Knies and since ROR is on an expiring deal I really don't think they'll move him

Minten was the leafs 2nd round pick this year (38th overall). 2 Way Centre. Smart kid. Started hockey late in life, so he has a lot of potential but has a lot of work to do. He would be the Leafs 5thish best prospect.

Knies is our number one prospect. I don't see them trading him for a rental. Unless it's a 1 for 1 for an O'Reilly type.

Hawks won't waste a retention slot on engvall who doesn't have much value anyway

It's certainly far from the worst ROR to TML offer I've seen here, but I'm not particularly enticed by Minten. Maybe Army would be, but I would not bet on it.

And as always, the Blues are not in or near tear down mode right now. Maybe it'll happen later, but it's not happening now.

really? last two teams to win the cup moved their first round picks for a UFA at the trade deadline

very valid take, my thought is just that a retool would be entirely possible and they might move guys on expiring deals like ROR and Tarasenko and Barbashev, maybe a couple others as they see fit, and retool a bit over the summer to structure the team around the younger core emerging with Thomas and Kyrou

Minten seems like a gem and I'd wanna keep him but you have to give up to get, and I wouldn't be willing to move a guy like Knies. Think this would be roughly fair value, if, which is a big if, ROR were moved

fair. doesn't have to be hawks, just this kind of premise to move engvall for a worse depth player making less money

That’s a Jensen deal that I feel like would be fair for both sides. I like it.

I’m watching Jimmy Snuggerud play right now and Knies is freaking nuts. I think it could be hard to scale up his game to the NHL initially, but he’s got the chance to be a sick power forward. You’re right to hold on to him.

Value may be fair, but others would likely have more tempting pieces.

maybe. But I would also expect it to play out in Giroux-esque fashion where the organization respects his preferences of a select few teams after all he accomplished with STL, all likely contenders that don't have THAT big of prospect pieces to dangle. Definitely possible that a better prospect or a sweetener would be needed, my guess is probably not by much but who knows

Savard and Lehkonen (Manson wasn't a first rounder but good prospect and a 2nd and was a good dman for Avs too)

Colorado moved their 1st for Kuemper, but a first-round prospect for Lehkonen.

Yeah but ROR has no trade protection and I believe Giroux had a full NTC (NMC? I can’t remember.) Quite a bit different

true. They still might do it out of respect tho. At least to a certain extent. Like im sure they'd give him like a 10 team option or something out of respect and like maybe a handful of those actually want to make a deal. Or maybe not idk

Yeah no chance. The team that let consecutive captains walk over an NMC and an extra year respectively is not going to cave to a guy with zero trade protection.

good point about previous captain treatment. Just know that some organizations probably would give at least a bit of preference for a legend in the organization

well owe him nothing is harsh Blues don't win the cup or probably even make the finals without him in 2018 but I get what you're trying to say and can understand it
