This is definitely something that the islanders would do. Basically as long as this comes with a long term extension (or he is willing to and we negotiate right away) it would work

My alternative thought was:

To NYI: Timo 50% retention, Merkley
To SJS: Beauvillier, Odelius, Dufour 2024 1st

Lol wow this is bad.

1) This trade lacks blue-chip prospects coming back the Sharks' way.

2) The Sharks are retaining $1.5M on Meier this year?

3) Merkley included too for some reason?

4) The Sharks are taking on Bailey's contract dump for next season?

This doesn't make sense from the Sharks' POV. Meier is a legit grade A asset.

If this deal is closer to the deadline, there's no need for the Sharks to retain anything - as it stands right now the Isles will have at least $11M in equivalent cap space at the deadline, so no need to include Bailey either. If the Sharks view Beauvillier as an attractive asset, I'd have no problem including him, but again - I'd only count him as positive value if San Jose wants him. If you see him as offsetting cap that lowers the Islanders offer, then don't include him - it won't be necessary.

I think if you separate that out of this package, it's not awful. Odelus/Dufour/'23 1st/'24 2nd for Meier. Merkley isn't necessary to add - I do *like* him as a player but I think that's too much for the Sharks to send back. They should be hanging on to dudes like that in a rebuild, not shipping them out. I know that San Jose has 49 contracts currently in their org, so if they need to add a body back to make that work I'd be fine taking back a Jaycob Megna/Scott Harrington/Matt Nieto type in that case.

I think this package depends on how strongly you feel about the prospects. Odelus is an 18 year old playing every day in a Swedish professional league after being picked in the 2nd round this year; Dufour might only be a 5th round pick but he had a monster season last year in the Q (56-60-116 in 66 GP!) and has looked very good so far in the AHL (7-4-11 in 18 GP.) I don't see Lou trading out Raty for a rental, but if you don't like these guys I'm sure he'd offer up Sam Bolduc (3-15-18 in 19 GP as Bridgeport's LD1) or Simon Holmstrom (probably middle-6 ceiling on him) in addition to those picks.

Isles would be a great fit for Meier. I’d do this deal. Hopefully he is on their radar IRL

This is a realistic return. Most Sharks fans are very unrealistic in the return for Timo. I'm not saying SJ should do this, i am saying this is realistically what a Timo trade will look like.

If you actually think Meier is returning multiple blue chip prospects then clearly your head isn't right.

And if you think the Sharks are giving up an elite winger for peanuts, you need to lay off the drugs.
