Initial Creation Date: Dec. 9, 2022
Published: Dec. 9, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Probably not needed but just cause.
Vancouver gets Suter who can fill in 3C or wing for the rest of the season. They can choose to resign him if they want or if Horvat leaves them they have a capable 2/3C (better third line but can fill the void short term) to replace him. Sebrango is a defensive defenceman with decent potential.

Just two days ago Vancouver fans were trading him for a third. Seems like they are ready to let him go for cheap if they are letting him negotiate his own trade.

I feel like it's more of a "Hey, we can't find anything we like, but if you want to go looking, have at 'er!" situation.

I'm not saying that he gets an absolute haul in a trade, and I understand the mentality of clearing up that cap space to make changes moving forward, but I would absolutely not do this if I was Vancouver.

Sure they would, Sorry but Brock Boeser has very little value at full value, Unless Allvin plans on retaining on Boeser. You're not getting much for him.

Personally, I like the idea of Boeser but, $7m a year is a bit much for player that is seemingly as streaky as he is.

Also, I would expect a corresponding move involving Vrana and/or Bertuzzi if we’re going to add another top 9 winger.

I just didn't feel like making those moves to be honest.

Sebrango is a third round pick from two seasons ago who is playing in the ECHL.

I don't think that's too intriguing for Vancouver.

Only reason he is playing in the ECHL is cause right now Detroit has Chiarot, Maatta, Hagg, Walman, Oesterle in the NHL. Edvinsson, Lashoff, Johansson and McIsaac in the AHL. Just no room for him right now. He played in Grand Rapids the last two seasons and some of this season and done quite well for a 20 year old.

The way I see it the Brock Boeser situation is as the following:
1) Both management and Boeser's side believe that it's time to move on. Management wants cap flexibility out of the trade more than anything.
2) VAN management is basically putting out an on sale sign out there, and saying Boeser can be had for cheap, but it's attracting a lot of interest.
3) They have the agent doing the work basically trying to get the trade and sell them on Boeser.

I think that the Canucks are losing less leverage this way in the deal. So, the result is probably that they free up a ton of cap by trading him without retention and as you said they might even get a decent haul out of it (possibly more than what analysts or fans are expecting).

I don't know much about Sebrango and his value but I'm guessing Vancouver can get an experience UFA (like Suter) + a decent prospect (someone who has somewhat of being a top 6 F or top 4 D) OR a former highly touted prospect that has lost favor/value (NOT someone like Zadina but more like LA's Turcotte) + a 2nd or 3rd

Definitely would require a corresponding move.

There is going to be concern with Boeser's injury history and goal-scoring streakiness which could be related, but there is some consistency in terms of overall production (pace of 60+ pts in almost all seasons). So it's definitely worth exploring a trade if they can get him for cheap especially considering that 60-70 pts a few years back was good for top producer in Detroit for a while. If it doesn't work out he's only got 2-years left anyways.

Canucks fans are the most bipolar people I have ever seen.

I would rather deal from a surplus and not from a deficit since we don't really have much for RHD.

Does anyone know why Toumisto went from winning a National Championship back Finland?

I don’t but I would speculate to get pro experience against stiffer competition. But again, idk.
