Karlsson no retention scenario what does edmonton need to add

Description

EDM takes the bigger contract, but also by far the best player in the deal. They offload Campbell who is proving to be worth closer to his 1.6M contract than his 5M deal, as well Barrie and Foegle to make the cap work. An even number of contracts are swapped.

SJ doesn't get any value back for Karlsson aside from whatever they can flip half retained Barrie for, but gets a significant portion off of the books. If they can rebuild Campbell, they immediately look to flip him.

To me SJS likely declines this - they may as well retain 5M on Karlsson and get a very nice return than take on Campbell unless they think they can rebuild his play. But interesting thought nonetheless.

Maybe EDM has to add a first rounder and then it gets more interesting - consider this the base and then we can discuss what needs to be added

EK is not what Edmonton needs. They need a bunch of guys who are super defensive,

I think we need to consider what is an $11.5m Karlsson worth? I think that’s a super tough question.

With significant retention, he’s worth a kings ransom and at 50% he’s worth arguably more than he was traded for initially.

At $11.5m; I think his value will be in taking back a terrible contract to offset a chunk of that incoming salary and then SJ can get closer to his actual value.

Unless UPL starts stealing games, I don't think the Sabres will want to move Comrie, especially with retention

Sharks would prefer to move him with retention so we can get picks and prospects back. Moving him for vets is zero sum gain.

Tough to imagine the right offer but definitely no point of unloading EK65 for the sake of cap space.

Probably Puljujarvi, Holloway, a first? for EK65 and some retention. Possibly adding in Barrie for salary purposes
