The rumour is that Toews said he'd rather retire than ruin his reputation by playing for the Bruins. Not sure how that turn into you trading for him.

It’s a rumor. Most usually don’t amount to anything.

Personally I don’t think this is the piece they should be going for. And no I don’t mean Kane either.

It doesn’t really do much for either team, and I don’t think taking on the extra 3 million in salary next year is worth a very late first round pick.

Toews isn't waiving for the Bruins, More than likely he either goes to Colorado or home to Winnipeg.

It actually WAS a rumor reported by multiple BOS ,CHI, and league-wide sources over the summer that BOS would be keeping an eye on the Toews situation and were interested in acquiring him if he were to be available and they needed a Center at the deadline. All the same, it was just rumor and speculation with maybe a little bit of truth sprinkled on top.

A trade rumor, and “making a phone call,” are two very different things. The latter was reported.

What was reported was that "the bruins had inquired about Toews" in one form or another (which would have been, in all likelihood, a "phone call"), without any cited sources. Regardless, if you already knew that, how did you jump from 'what was reported' to this being "just your idea" referring to the ACGM that made this?

Most people would include 'reports that are not corroborated with any sort of substantial evidence' in the category of 'rumor and/or speculation'. Even if it were proven that BOS did indeed "make a phone call", it would still inspire 'rumor and speculation'. By definition, just one person saying something, anything at all, could be considered a 'rumor' until it is proven or disproven.

You could have just said "that rumor is unsubstantiated" or "that rumor has already been disproven" or "that was over the summer and the Bruins are no longer interested" (which, unless you are part of the bruins scouting and/or management staff, would be entirely speculation on your part), but to say to this ACGM that it is "Just their idea" is false, unless there is some other definition of the word 'rumor' that I am unaware of.

I think there’s certainly a rumor that the bruins asked, “hey Whats up with toews.” I don’t think there’s any sort of trade rumors regarding the player with boston.
