As a Blues fan, I'd take the Tarasenko offer. I'd probably even accept this if you made the 3rd rounder conditional.
Funny how if someone proposed this a year ago you would've been shunned.

This offer would get the Blues' attention if they decide to sell.

Right, but a year ago they weren't playing Jekyll and Hyde. They were just contending.

Why is Buffalo adding a 2nd, drop the pick and it's fine

You’re getting the best player in the trade.

Backlund is worth much more than that and will absolutely not be the player traded for cap space next season

If not him then Mangiapane goes. We have to shed a contract.

Lol no we dont, what are you going on about. You added a rental in Tarasenko who has zero effect on the cap next year. Calgary at most has to move put 2M cap to be compliant next season

I’m not talking about “cap compliant”. I’m talking about having enough room to actually sign a UFA.

I understand Backlund is better but over their last 115 games he has 18 goals and 57 pts and Mittelstadt has 21 goals and 58 pts.
I know there are more than points to determine value, but dropping $2,850,000 of cap for two years must have some value.
The trade as written would surely be rejected be Karmanos!

And thats just simply not going to happen until the cap goes up. Calgary is pretty much locked into their next years team. Im genuinely curious what kind of UFA you are going to find at ~3M that is more effective than either of Backlund or Mangiapane. Please name 1

Backlund once again leads the league in CA/60. He is going to have another high selke vote finish. The gap between him and what Mittelstadt provides isn't even worth talking about

He’s a 3C
If u want Mitts & a 2nd, look somewhere else
Bc the Sabres won’t even consider that

Not gonna overpay for a 3C, period

David Kampf is almost as good for about half the price.

This isn’t remotely an overpay. It’s a very late 2nd, a bottom six forward and an AHLer.

I live in Toronto, I've seen nearly every leafs game this year. Kampf is not remotely as good as you are making him out to be plus he took a hometown discount. We had our chance to sign a super team friendly forward this offseason and he was brutal in training camp so he didn't get a deal from the PTO

So we get an OLD bottom6 forward with a big Cap hit

And u guys get a YOUNG bottom6 forward, with the potential to be better PLUS other assets

When u take into account age & Cap hit,
Mitts > Backlund
And u want more pieces as well??

Absolutely not, no way, no thank you

Backlund has one more year left then he’s a UFA. He is going to be better next season. His play hasn’t fallen off. Every other Sabres fan has loved this deal or at least the framework of it.

That is simply not true.
@Buffalove @Chapee44 @Shibbal18 and I all rejected part of the trade.
Not one Sabre fan is in favor of getting an older higher paid albeit better player.
You and Ledge are not listening, Sabre fans are not endorsing this trade at all even though many of the Sabre contributors are disenchanted with Casey.
