This is a big no. Pens will not be moving a 1st this year, especially with this good of a draft class coming up. I'd rather dump Kapanen and Heinen and give a 2nd and mid prospect

Kapanen would be more likely.

Dumping Kapanen alone is worth a 2nd. You won't get Monahan with 50% retention for free.

Kapanen is an expensive healty scratch RW. Montreal already have Armia. No thanks.

Kapnen can fetch a late round pick from someone like Arizona, thinking a 5th or 6th. 2nd and mid prospect for Monahan would do it if he becomes available at the deadline or even before then. Kapanen and Heinen dumps would not be to MTL if that's what you were thinking

Carter is at the end of his career and has a NMC. He’d rather chase a Cup this year with Pittsburgh. MTL would do it an unprotected first in 2023 + another asset to balance the cap hit

If dumping Kapanen costs a 2nd then dumping Monahan at 50% costs a 2nd too. So Kapanen for Monahan 50% retained straight up.

Go ask around about both players value.

Do you have any GM’s phone numbers? I don’t really care what biased Habs fans think about both players values lol.
Monahan has 4 more points than Kapanen and only 1 more goal. Monahan has also played 2 more games and is always injured.

You don't seem to get what he said:
- Monahan at 50% retained will cost the Pens a 1st
and
- Habs also receive a 2nd for absorbing Kapanen's contract for this year and next
LIRIK liked this.

I guess we'll see at trade deadline if Monahan is traded for something, or kept in MTL because he's a cap dump like you said.

No it wouldn’t because Hextall isn’t that dumb.

I didn’t say he was. You did by saying a similar player in Kapanen was a cap dump lol

You can then try to trade him somewhere else to clear the cap and then we can proceed with the trade for Monahan. Not many teams have cap space this year. We can accommodate or someone else will, but there will be a price to pay.

If you prefer, we could do Armia for Kapanen straight up and forget about Monahan.

Add your unprotected 1st then sure. Armia sucks worse than Kappy, has a bigger contract and a longer one too.

Ask around if Kapanen is a cap dump. Any team fan. Even PIT fans.

Why? I never said he wasn’t.
Just an fyi though. I didn’t have to go far to find another that says he isn’t. There is literally another pens fan on this thread saying he isn’t lol

You basically say Kapanen and Monahan 50% retained have the same value.

Now you pretend you never said Monahan was a cap dump, so a similar player in Kapanen isn't a cap dump too.

And here, saying you never said Kapanen wasn't a cap dump. But you just did 1 quote ago.

I repeat, Monahan will be traded for a 1st or a 2nd at worst. Kapanen would cost at least a 2nd to dump now, or a 3rd next summer.

It might not be worth it to give up the first, but Monahan is more than a marginal upgrade over Carter. Carter has simply been abysmal this season. Statistically the worst third line in the league.
