Re-signing conditions are no longer allowed in the CBA I think.

i mean if you ship out byram that clears ~4mil so it makes it easier to resign horvat but is it worth it. When byram is healthy the guys a stud, probily a top 2 dman on 95% of teams in another year or two and we'd be trading him for a top6 center and a first. I think byram will have a bigger contribution to this team long term than horvat so i don't think i'd do it.

Others have mentioned the no picks for resigning deal, but Colorado GETS picks for resigning Horvat? Lol, Vancouver would be better off letting him walk to ufa than giving up 2 firsts

Other way around. Colorado gets the picks if Horvat walks. I'll edit to make it less confusing.

Vancouver obviously doesn't trade him then. Trading firsts while rebuilding is horrible

Even if conditional signing picks were still allowed, there is zero chance Vancouver would take this deal: there are no shortages of teams who would want to add Horvat. If picks and prospects are coming back, they simply retain and take the best deal possible. This trade exposes them to losing out on the deal if Horvat doesn't resign. Any GM who took this would be fired.

Also, Colorado cannot afford to resign Horvat. McKinnon's extension kicks in next year.

Still an easy no for both teams.
