laugh Arizona isn't potentially giving up Connor Bedard for Auston Matthews, Arizona can just sign Matthews in 2024 should he leave the Leafs.

3 year elc of bedard vs a 15 million Mathews would be a interesting question, 3 year elc is a bargain in the college barn, but Mathew sure a draw in Phoenix for a new building.

If Matthews wants to go "home" he'll sign with Vegas, where the fan base and team and city and life style is a hell alot better than Arz.

If he's willing to sign in Arizona they can have both, as matthews will be a ufa soon

Well I kinda laugh at folks who think Matthews HAS to sign the Leafs or Coyotes. I think for cap and a teams potential and would the Kings or maybe the Ducks.

Toronto declines the Arizona trade. Matthews is better than Bedard and Toronto is in the business of winning now. With regards to Matthews vs bedard

As someone said in a previous post… “ I also think you can easily fall into the old Family Guy joke of "sure we've got an Auston Matthews, Lois, but there could be *anything* under the box - even an Auston Matthews!!”

That's my point. Matyhews most likely follows one of two paths.

1. He follows the money and goes to a team on the rise that he will ruin cap structure, like Anaheim.
2. He follows a contract at a potential winner (two years from now) and takes a discount and ends up at 20 other teams, like Dallas.

Matthews doesn't have to go home, Stamkos didn't. Matthews doesn't have to stay, lots of players don't.

Strange I rarely hear of MLB or NFL players wanting to play "at home". They follow the money and opportunity. On Cap Friendly though, it seems to be a big thing. Now I admit some players wouldn't want to go to some cities....I get that,
Getting back to Matthews. I've thought for years he wants to go to be a big US media city. I'm guessing LA.

Nhl players go home all the time. Heck, just this year Copp came home. Sadly, the overpay was a hometown discount in that case. Larkin will sign a reasonable deal to stay home. Few people in the world realize how awesome Michigan actually is. Once you experience Michigan, you realize how damn good it is.

I'm from Ontario. Michigan has lots of good things as you say. I have spent more time in upper New York State and really enjoy it. (east of Buffalo) I've thought many UFAs...who usually older, often with families would like the travel schedule of the East Conference compared to the Western Conference.
Even as a Canadian, I would find Winnipeg, and Edmonton as places I would not want to live in winter (and the travel)

Ontario, Southern at least, is much like Michigan. Michigan is a little more connected and developed while still not being on the grid like NY or LA.

I've always considered Detroit and Buffalo "sister cities". Weather, sports, and our culture somewhat similar. I've been a Bills fan since the 1960s. Lions....how about them, a chance to make the playoffs this year.

Oh man...I think being a Bills fan is almost as bad as a Lions fan. Always just missing the finish line.

Don't worry about the Lions. They will be 1 yard away from a game winning touchdown with no time on the clock and they will fumble. Aaron Rodgers, who will be on the field playing defense for some reason, will pick up the fumble and run for a 99 yard touchdown. We will be able to watch replays of Rodgers slowly running the ball down the field while multiple Lions dive at him like they would if they were intentionally missing tagging their 5 year old kid in a game of tag.
