Description
I think Gavrikov, Nyquist, and Korpisalo are dealt at the deadline. Roslovic and Bean are moved in the offseason either for draft capital, but I moved them for two players who help the team defensively.

Korpisalo is having a career resurgence after his much needed hip surgery and I am truly happy for him. He needs to go to a playoff contender who has a questionable backup (probably not Washington).

Using todays standings and assuming no lottery changes the Jackets have the 3rd overall pick. I think Bedard and Fantilli are the unanimous 1st and 2nd overall picks to Chicago and Anaheim respectively. At this point it's where the draft gets real fun because the coin flip goes Michkov or Leo Carlsson.

If I'm the GM, I love me some big boy power forward center play and I would take Leo Carlsson. Since I'm not and Jarmo is the NHL's defacto James Bond villain who picks whatever he wants no matter where they are on board, I think he goes and gets Michkov to add to his stable of Russians since Kent Johnson is looking like the real deal in at center. I know Michkov doesn't propel the team to a contender until he decides to come over from Russia, but I think the only player that would do that for Columbus is Bedard at this point. If we deem that first line center is a real need, Larkin and Horvat are possibilities in FA. If Voracek is truly LTIRetired at the end of the season, there is substantial money to make a deal with one of them after shedding Gavrikov and Nyquist at the TDL and Roslovic at the draft and still sign a couple substantial additions to the blue line.

I would spend the late first rounder from Edmonton on a big Center like Charlie Stramel or trade up to pick up my favorite first rounder (outside the top 5) Kasper "The Big Tuna" Haltunnen. Yes, I made that nickname up. Why wouldn't you call a 6'3" power forward with the last name Haltunnen "The Big Tuna"? I demand payment for my intellectual property from now on. Copywrite now pending. Both players are big, strong, healthy, physical players that would slot in very nicely to someone who needs some protections on this team in a few years.

Other trades and Free Agency pickups I think are necessary are two new LHD and a strong, two way center with a high FO percentage to fill some voids and push the team out of the rebuild phase.

Next year the Jackets need to figure out what to do with Gudbranson. That M-NTC makes things difficult, but I think he can be moved with retention to a team on his list who catches the injury bug late in the season.

TDL. Jackets take on 50% and Dallas gets a serious bump to their PK and add top 6 level playmaking and great defensive capabilities to their third line.

CBJ
  1. Sturm, Nico

Offseason:
Complete spitball here, but the Jackets desperately need Nico Sturm's services in the FO circle and defensively. I would be happy to overpay to get that. Not sure what the price is, but he comes with a reasonable extension already signed and that usually makes it a complete no-go. Kind of like Peeke's new deal. But this adds a #1Center on the PK and defensive reliability in the center position. San Jose fans: any thoughts on moving him for Roslovic and a second?

BTW, this is half a blockbuster without any star players involved but I prefer to break it down like this. If this looks like too much going back, get a load of what I'm sending for Mario Ferraro.
SJS
  1. Roslovic, Jack
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (DAL)
5.
CBJ
  1. Ferraro, Mario
Additional Details:
Offseason:
This trade and the Nico Sturm trade will be done as one, but I am breaking them out to determine value throughout. I saw on a write up on a Red Wings site noting the price for Ferraro is thought to be a second round pick, an NHL caliber player, and a prospect. I don't know what San Jose needs in terms of prospects, but I am hoping the 35th overall pick in this draft will suffice value-wise to cover pick and prospect for a team ready to start a rebuild. If not, may I offer you a surprisingly excellent Marcus Bjork?
SJS
  1. Bean, Jake
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (CBJ)
6.
CBJ
  1. Graves, Ryan
Additional Details:
Purely for the satisfaction of signing him in FA and throwing him on the depth chart, I'm acting like it's trading for the signing rights.

Is it feasible he makes it to FA? I don't know, but money's looking to start getting tight in Jersey.

Deal is $4.5 million x 3 years or something... I don't know, defenseman salaries are all over the place right now. Jersey fans: what do you believe he wants/deserves in his next contract?

I'm assuming the Korpisalo deal could be for any team, because the Caps have zero need or use for a goalie.

With Dallas having already traded away their 2023 1st Round Pick, I can't see Nill trading away their 2nd Round Pick for a piece that they don't need.

Stars already have a top-5 PK, and a handful of good defensive forwards (Faksa, Glendening, Dellandrea, Hintz, Pavelski). I don't see a need for them to deal away a 2nd Round Pick in a deep draft for someone like Nyquist.

the sharks deal is a tough one.
on the surface your massively overpaying for what those two are providing this year, but sharks fans are going to say hell no.
Sturm has been pleasantly surprising and Ferraro is a leader and one of the best shot blockers in hockey, but his numbers and metrics are atrocious.
being bi partisan i would say this is massive overpay, being a sharks homer I would say no thanks to the deal.
sorry i’m not much help.

First 3 trades - sure, those returns work.

2nd 3 trades - oof, no thank you. Not paying to get rid of Roslovic and get a 4th line center when we already have Karuly to do that same job. Not really looking to love pick to create slight upgrades, if you call them that.

I don’t mind the first few trades. The roslovic trade is a non starter for me personally as acquiring a 4c with term isn’t ideal when we already have a 4c in kuraly. The second sharks trade I a lot as we more of what we are looking for in a shut down guy. If it takes a 7th to secure graves I’m all for it. I’d be willing to give him 5x5 but no longer.
