Oh I know. I want way more.

But I think the Leafs fans will get horned up seeing a forward group this deep.

Leafs have good centre nows Horvat wouldn't be that much PP time with the Leafs. His even strength numbers this year aren' that special.
I know so many Canuck fans don't know there are other teams in the leagues besides the Leafs. Trade Horvat to a team that needs a centre.
Leafs can't afford even to QO Meier.

What value do you think is fair for Horvat? Ive been searching the last few days to find the last time someone like Horvat (rental UFA) was traded and what they returned. Cant come up with anything big for returns

Its tough imo. Theres a difference of trading for a Horvat rental vs trading for an extended Horvat I think.

Agreed. The closest thing I can think of is the Mark Stone trade from Ottawa to Vegas where an agreement was in place for an extension before the trade

While I think they need to make a big move, I don't think it's two blockbusters. Likely one big add and I would prefer ROR over Horvat due to his far superior defensive play. Horvat wouldn't be served well by going to TO. He wouldn't likely play on the top PP unit and his linemates won't often be top end. He's just not the right fit in TO.

Both would be rentals but I do feel like a big add is worth it this year. Especially if it also means one of our rivals doesn't gain an advantage

I feel like the minimum return should be what Giroux got. But Horvat should probably get more than that as he’s producing better offensively than Giroux was and can be traded to any team, while Giroux was only willing to go to Florida

Value aside since everyone has commented on it. I'm not sure I'd play Horvat behind Tavares and if you did I think it would be enough of a reason for him not to resign. He does have 7 more goals than anyone currently on your team and 10 more than Tavares.

Personally, I think the Giroux deal is at least somewhat similar as a starting point for a Horvat deal (1st, Prospect, 3rd). Horvat and Giroux are both great faceoff guys, both can play a good two-way game, and can both contribute offensively. I'd say while Giroux is a better defensive C, Horvat has had a better offensive year. They're both also captains of their respective teams.

The main difference I see between the two is the fact that Giroux had a full NMC and could pretty much dictate the 2 or 3 teams that could trade for him. On the other hand, Horvat is $3 million cheaper and can be moved anywhere. The freedom to move him anywhere is what could drive his price well beyond Giroux's, as a bidding war could very easily break out between multiple teams.
