If Im GM at TDL

Created by: Hammerwise
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 13, 2023

Team: 2022-23 Montreal Canadiens
Description
Just desperate to offload some of the misfit toys and create cap space for 23-24

Just taking a guess at who could be moved and for what, but theres guys like Hoffman and Armia who I see as having almost or real negative value and guys like byron/gallagher who probably cost too much to move.

But mostly trying to find fits on other teams and approx trade values

You can keep Dvorak. Frost is younger, better, cheaper...the trifecta

Why? As long as Price is out we are fine cap wise. Half the guys you're moving are gone at the end of the year regardless. The rest we're in no rush to move and can wait until their final contract year to sell them off.
Then you added Faksa, which contradicts your premise. Just keep Dvorak.

But instead of eating those UFAs, there is some return here.

And then theres the movement of guys like hoffman, edmundson, dvorak who have multiple years left but should be moved to play youth/find a better fit.

You cant tell me MTL is better off by not moving dandanov, drouin, hoffman, etc... even for middling return

As far as dvorak over faksa, I agree, but its Frost and Faksa over dvorak. Dvorak has 3 yrs left and is not what we thought, faksa might be a bad investment but he comes with a 2nd, and it might work from a DAL perspective

Habs fan here... But you lost me at Dadonov for a 3rd. We would have to retain 50% and PAY a 3rd at this point

With the Stars not having a 1st Round Pick, they aren't trading their 2nd Round Pick in a cap dump for cap dump swap

Dvorak and Evans are good for developing youth. They take some of the more difficult minutes and responsibilities to ease other players into the lineup. Dvorak may not be what we thought, but he's still a good two-way 3C and faceoff man. Frost is the opposite. We need Dvorak more right now.

I'm fine with the rest leaving. We aren't getting much of anything for Dadonov, Drouin, and Hoffman, so I wouldn't complain regardless of the return, as long as we aren't taking back bad contracts with any term on them. Those are the guys that need to go to make room for youth.

I can't see your team trading the better of their two 2023 thirds for Dadonov, even half retained.

The Edmundson trade is defensible on value, but Madden is a sufficiently good prospect that we'd insist on Montreal retaining 50% on Edmundson.
