Blackwood is still young so Ottowa takes a chance that he can bounce back from a change of scenery.

Given that Talbot is 35, a UFA and probably won’t be resigned anyway makes him obsolete for Ottowa. They make this trade in the chance that they can rehab Blackwood into what he was early on his career. Retention gives Talbot the same cap hit as Blackwood. Tbf I think this 1 for 1 makes sense for both teams.
