Why would Zary only be worth a 2nd?

What team would give up a 1st round pick for a backup goalie and when has that ever been done?

2nd round pick for a kid that hasn't played an NHL game yet? Yeah, Rangers pass.

If that is your logic, so is Jake Allen, but no team would give up a 1st for him.

I like Lindholm and a 2023 1st is fair but the Avs can't afford him moving forward without retention which I doubt Calgary would want to do.

Okay, we'll start with the third that you paid for him and see where we go from there.

NYR say "Thank You, PLEASE COME AGAIN"

Zary while maybe not a potential top line prospect, has the potential to be a solid 2nd line option where CGY is probably doing the right thing by letting him play in the AHL and develop, rather than rushing him into unrealistic expectations. While he isn't slide eligible, NYR jump on the opportunity to get a decent prospect for a 2nd round pick that may or may not make an impact in the future

Keep dreaming. He can't make Calgary's team and you want a 2nd round pick in a deep draft year? Easy NO THANKS.

LOL the kid is 21 years old, and has 36 points in 36 games in the AHL. Considering we have Brodzinski, Blais, Vesey, Goodrow, Hajek, and the new guy we claimed on waivers all on the NHL roster, Zary could easily make our team. I think CGY is doing the right thing and not rushing him like we did with Lafreniere, Kakko, Chytil, Kravtsov, etc. We all saw how those guys have panned out so far. Stunted growth and development.

BTW, that 2nd round pick is 3-4 years away from actually playing a game in a NYR sweater. By that point, Panarin, Trouba, Lindgren, Kreider, are all gone. While Zary has the potential to make a difference this year. Stupid to say no to this trade.

LMAO what? He just turned 21, most 21 year olds simply play in the minors because they are developing. You are acting like he's some bust or something that should already be an NHL regular

You got a 2nd for Lias Andersson in a deep draft and he was viewed as drastically worse at the time. Zary is easily worth a 1st still

That's your opinion and you're welcome to it. Give up a good pick for an AHL player is silliness.

And how did LA like giving up that 2nd round pick for Lias? That's my point. NO THANKS.

That's because Lias was a bust with quickly falling potential and value. Whereas someone like Zary is not a bust and is very much on the rise potential and value wise. Your inability to recognize talent is laughable. Brennan Othman must also not be worth a 2nd because he can't make the NHL right?

How do you know Zary isn't a bust, he hasn't played a game in the NHL, and if he has such potential, WHY ONLY A 2ND ROUND PICK FOR HIM? If he has so much potential, KEEP HIM and be happy. And FYI, Othmann will be in the NHL at 21.

Show me on this doll where Zary hurt you....

Go back 10 years and find me a 2nd rounder that NYR drafted that made a difference.
2019 - Matthew Robertson, Karl Henriksson
2018 - Olof Lindbom
2015 - Ryan Gropp
2014 - Branden Halverson
2012 - Boo Nieves
2010 - Christian Thomas
2009 - Ethan Werek
2008 - Yevgeni Grachyov
2007 - Antoine Lafleur
2006 - Artem Anisimov

YOU HAVE TO GO BACK 16 YEARS BEFORE YOU FIND ONE THAT HAD A DECENT CAREER. 2nd rounders are shots in the dark and FYI-- almost every year they say it's a deeper draft. Even if you go back to 2018, 4 of the 30 picks have played in 100 games and no one has more than 51 points. (hint he was one of those 4, next highest is 34). Go the next year in 2019 and only 2 players have played more than 100 games (and the highest point total is 54 points).

anything outside the top 20 picks is a real shot in the dark. it always is. its is exceedingly rare that these players go on to make a difference, and when they do it isn't for YEARS. NYR cup contention is next 3-4 years.

I don't know if Zary is a bust or not. But he's certainly trending towards not, unlike Lias at the time

I didn't propose the trade, I said earlier in this thread that he is worth at least a 1st.

FYI you have zero proof that Othmann will be in the NHL at 21, and Zary can still make the NHL at 21, seasons far from over

He almost made it this year and if he was age eligible he would have been at Hartford this year. He is a lock to make it next season.

Thats baseless. All you are doing is driving your own prediction as fact.

Zary was by far Calgary's best prospect at camp and could have made the team but like most smart team management groups they decided to let him develop more in the minors instead of blundering his development in the NHL
