Yeah, I can't see a Wild team that's pretty solidly in playoff position trading an RHD skating 21+ minutes per night for a lesser RHD, a 4th liner, and a 4th rounder. I think you'd have to massively overpay to get them to make a move that swaps their good pending UFA for a pair of mediocre ones.

I really really really don’t want Dumba at any cost. Even if he was free

Dude he sucks and they’re scratching him. He’s clearly not helping them in their playoffs push and his analytics and numbers aren’t good and his offence isn’t that good anymore. Gonna get overpaid cuz he’s a name more than a good player at this point

they've been actively shopping him for like 3 years, where have you been. he's a scratch and it's been known for months that he's gonna be moved by the deadline this year, just to not have him around in playoffs

He doesn’t suck. He’s averaging over 20 minutes a night and is a great skater, physical and moves the puck well he’s not the best defender but pair him with Sanderson and that’s a very dynamic d pairing

I’d rather get a mayfield or Jensen or Murphy tbh. Need a stay at home D that you can trust in the last 10 mins of a game.

If Dumba is scratched, it's either because there's a trade for him incoming, or because they're rotating Goligoski in for a game because he hasn't played in like two weeks.

If the former, they're not playing a asset that's about to be moved.

If it's the latter. They're not taking any of Spurgeon, Brodin, or Addison out right now. They're playing too well. Middleton and Merrill are the only two guys with size in the top 6, and if you’re rotating Goligoski in you’re going to want size back there. Which leaves Dumba.

Scratching a player to rotate in another player who hasn't played in two weeks isn't the issue you lot are making it out to be. It certainly isn't because of his play of late.

AND FOR THE RECORD. DUMBA DOES NOT SUCK.

He literally ranks in the 95th percentile for defenders this year in regards to defense. So I'm not sure where you're reading he's bad defensively. Because it ain't true.

His 5v5 GA/60 is pretty freaking good. 20th in the league amongst defenders with at least 200 minutes played. Not bad for the defender with the 25th most 5v5 minutes in the league. He also leads Minnesota defenders in 5v5 ice time by over 100 minutes.

He can’t seem to shake the all offense no defense scouting report from his junior days. He’s an excellent defender who isn’t put into offensive situations anymore (no PP time, not on first two units).

Dumba is better than any them both defensively and in terms of usage THIS year.

How are they better options?

a healthy scratch after getting 21+ minutes per night for the first 43 games sounds (to me) more like "sending a message" than an indictment of his overall play. He takes too many penalties, and his offense has fallen off, but his defensive value still pegs him as a solid middle pair guy. Even if Minnesota fell completely apart and turned to sellers in the next 6 weeks, someone like that is going to get much more than 4th and a pair of depth guys in a trade.

Do you really think the Wild are going to go into the playoffs with Calen Addison as their RD2? And 37 year old Alex Goligoski as their 3rd pair? The only other way around it would be trading Dumba for assets while trading out other assets to get a replacement RD2 (Mayfield/Jensen/whoever), which has a huge potential to backfire. Like I said, scratching him tonight feels more like "sending a message"/giving a night off to a guy who's obviously been pressing.

I mean sure man, let's come back to this at the trade deadline and see if he's still on the Wild

Thank you.

As I already said.

It either means there's a trade incoming or its just because they want to give Goligoski some playing time after sitting out the last two weeks. If it's for Goligoski's sake, Dumba is the only defensemen the coaching staff can logically take out and give his spot to Goligoski because everyone else is either playing too well or is needed.

Besides, a night off for Dumba to rest and heal up from anything he might be nursing isn't a bad thing.

Gudas and Schenn and Trevor Van Riemsdyk are all better than Hamonic

And? I'm not sure any those would be cheaper than Dumba.
