Next steps for the Habs rebuild IMO

Created by: RemiLavoie

Description
I think this would wind up being a great off-season for the Habs.
The Dubois trade would be an absolute win, but would most likely only go through if Dubois made it clear that he wants to play nowhere else than MTL. If that doesn't work, I'd be willing to give Monahan a 2-3 year deal instead.
The Klingberg contract sucks, but he'd help our powerplay and ease the load on the rest of our top 4.
We'd wind up going into the season with less cap space than what would be ideal, but nearly 9 mil would be freed up the following off-season when we rid ourselves of the Hoffmann, Edmundson, Wideman, Pitlick, and Alzner contracts.

A 1st and 4th round pick isn't getting Pierre-Luc Dubois. Not even close.

John Klingberg isn't signing for no 3 yrs @ $4,000,000 per on a rebuilding Montreal team.

Doubtful teams are spending a 1st on Joel Edmundson, And Ken Holland hasn't spent a 1st since 2010 and i doubt he spends one now.

Very easy no for Winnipeg. They can easily get more than that from any team.

Winnipeg should take whatever they can for PLD if an offer is presented or he'll just sign another one year deal and then sign with the HABS next season.
If the FLA 1st round pick is given, it will be after the lottery draft pick is revealed.

Signing or trading for anyone makes no sense for Montreal right now, unless it's a younger player with at least 5 years of term.
We should be stockpiling assets and using short term free agents to plug holes until we've solidified our core and identified our needs in the next couple of years.
THEN we make the big trades for what we actually NEED.

PLD? Wait until he hits the market. Might not even need him by then.
Klingberg? Stop gap unless we give him an inadvisable 7 year term (and he probably blocks Barron).
Even Bellemare, just gets in the way taking up a development spot on the roster.

Edmundson isn't getting a 1st at this point (barring desperate GM shenanigans). Edmonton should still trade their 1st, just for someone else. Teams that are serious about having their best shot at a cup, don't keep their 1sts if they can use them to improve their chances.
