If John Carlson is out until the playoffs, Washington might want an experienced defenseman as a stopgap who could also help out on the power play (right now the Caps are 20th in the League in that department and 15th among teams currently in the playoffs).

As a Caps fan I'm not against it, but don't know if I would spend a 2nd on him, maybe a 3rd.

Considering we were hoping to get a 1st for him with retention (that ship has sailed probably sailed, but with another month until the TDL and injuries piling up, you never know) we're going to require at least a 23 2nd+ to send him out with retention.

Klingberg has quite literally had the worst defensive results of any defenseman in the entire league this year and has put up a grand total of four (!!!!!!) powerplay points this year despite shooting almost 10%, an unsustainably high percentage for a defenseman. They would legitimately be better off playing Irwin 25 mins a night.
