Yeah I don't think the blues do this. Bailey isn't attractive, I've heard reports that Wahlstrom might be out for the year. It will probably take a 2nd for someone to take on the Bailey contract so then it's basically Wahlstrom for Tarasenko which the blues probably don't do and your getting an extension which will cost more

Honestly as an Islanders fan I would probably do it. I think it is a pretty fair deal. 4 years isn't bad for tarasenko even though he isn't having a great season this year. ($7 mil is a bit steep but probably what he will come at) I like Whalstrom, but he hasn't been what I had hoped yet (he's still young) but he's out for the season so I'm not sure what would happen

Well with Tarasenko he isn't having the same year as last season, also a pending UFA with full control over his destination. I think eating a season of Bailey to net Wahlstrom is pretty fair

Trading Wahlstrom now from POV of the Blues helps them bottom out and get the best draft pick possible.

I don't rate Wahlstrom that high tbh. Wahlstrom and a 2nd for Tarasenko sure I could get behind that, especially if your getting an extension out of it . But then we would need an additional asset to take on Bailey

The hope is to get a '23 1st in the Tarasenko deal but I wouldn't be mad if the centerpiece was Wahlstrom. And honestly taking on a year of Bailey isn't as bad as it looks when you consider that the Blues FO would try to fill gaps with free agents which likely means multiple years on deals. You take Bailey, get meh performance out of him but avoid another bad contract, and then Snuggerud and Bolduc have top9 spots when they're ready. Put me on team "eh I guess that's fine"

If Wahlstrom was healthy, I’d be fine with this. Well, I guess I’D still be fine with this, but I doubt the Blues would want an injured Wahlstrom in a year where I’d imagine they want to at least qualify for the playoffs.

Maybe if we retain on Bailey, it’d make more sense?

The Islanders have an aging roster and considering Tarasenko's injury history, trading Wahlstrom is probably not a great idea. Although they probably should dump Bailey and perhaps acquire a rental that will cost cheaper, maybe a defender if they still need help at LD, perhaps Kulikov from Anaheim. Then in the off-season they could perhaps purse Tarasenko or Kane in free agency.

If Tarasenko and ROR are on the move there is no playoffs. I think adding Wahlly while he's hurt isn't a bad thing because it helps them bottom out to get into the lottery. Then, who knows?

If the Blues are punting on the season, I would assume that they take something like this. From St. Louis' perspective, Bailey is irrelevant to the deal because he's gone after the year & Wahlstrom's injury doesn't really matter to the Blues if they're focus is beyond this season.

If the Blues are trying to contend this year, I'd imagine that 1) they probably wouldn't move Tarasenko, and 2) if they did, they would want more immediate impact players than Bailey and an injured Wahlstrom.

Really just depends on how the Blues view themselves at the deadline, but the overall value looks pretty good from this non-Blues, non-Islanders fan perspective.

I’ve heard rumors that those two might be on the move, but my impression was that would depend on if they were in the playoff picture by the TDL. Though if I’m wearing and the Isles can pull this off, no complaints here. I know St. Louis fans will object, especially after seeing what Horvat got.

I think the similarities between Horvat and Tarasenko end at they are both UFAs this year. Horvat is younger, healthier, and plays a premium position. He also had zero trade protection which allowed VAN to shop offers for what they thought was the best return. Tarasenko has a full NTC and everything else I just mentioned going against him. I think this trade is pretty fair for STL if they are landing Wahlstrom as the centerpiece. Tarasenko's return should rightfully be less than Horvat's
