Doesn't really matter to the Hawks (or really any team) when their UFAs don't resign. Just use the $$$/cap that you have allotted for their resigning and spend it on some other player(s)

UFA comes and go all the time. Now it it be best for the Hawks if they got some nice assets back in a TDL trade. But if they don't they still shouldn't be "married" to Kane and Toews in future years unless the $$$ and cap suits the Hawks.

My opinion: Toews might agree to trade to the Jets, so the the Jets win their first Cup the season (unlikely as that might be). Kane....he just might want to rest his knee, and doesn't agree to any trade.

Like when the Leafs traded for Foligno?

Entirely different situations though, Foligno was supposedly brought in for his intangibles and grit. Also, important to remember that teams were feeling the cap crunch much worse back then, so it's not like there were many other options if any for that "need". That situation is more similar to defenders last year, and they didn't all fetch first-rounders.

Domi would be acquired for his offensive output, it seems that there are going to be many names out there on the market to fill that role (and potentially more), and he's not the top guy either. Some potential options are Meier, Kane, O'Reilly, Toews, Barbashev, and van Riemsdyk. Even without Kane, Toews, or O'Reilly there are still quite a few names other than Domi that can be targeted. Dubas has stated that he has no intention of giving up his first for a rental this year, if he does change his mind/if he were bluffing, do you really think the guy he would be willing to move the first for is Domi?

I never said he would be a rental for the Leafs.

If anything, he might want to extend with the Leafs, given that he's Tie Domi's son.

Like I said earlier, I don't know what the Hawks want for Max Domi.

I see Domi half retained returning a 2023 2nd or a 2024 2nd + 2023 4th. Or maybe a B level prospect like Abruzzese. I think if the Hawks retain on AA they'll want a 2023 pick. As for Toews and Kane, I'm predicting option 2. Kaner resigns for 2 years. Toews does not.

Yeah, he might resign but Max Domi seems like another Alex Galchenyuk to me. If they were to add him, it will likely just be to see if he's a fit, I don't think they see him as a good fit already. So, the assumption would probably be that he is a pure rental upon acquiring him.
