Leafs probably won't trade Knies in this deal considering the max amount they will be able to give Larkin is 8mx8 and they will need to let Bunting go, so having Knies' ELC to compete with Robertson for a top 6 spot will be needed.

It probably makes more sense for both sides that it would be Minten who is the centerpiece.

That’s a huge overpay for a rental

Larkin gets a similar return to Horvat

That’s true but however, rumors have came out that if the Leafs would want to acquire another top 6 player on of Knies or Holmberg would be in the deal.

Larkin is a Franchise player. Rental or not he gets a bigger return than Horvat. I like Horvat but he is not a player you would build your team around.

No he doesn't get the Horvat return, Horvat was traded out of the west to the east. Larkin is being traded within the division greater return. You honestly think that if Horvat was traded to Seattle that it would be a similar return as the Islanders. The answer is NO.

True. It is and overpay however, News has come out that Knies or Holmberg will be leaving if the Leafs want to get another top six forward. I think Knies or Holmberg and a minimum B- roster player would be a better trade.

If Larkin is a franchise player then the Leafs have 4 better franchise forwards already on the roster. Larkin is not a franchise forward.

Holmberg makes sense to include in a trade like this as well. Dubas said he won't trade Knies for a rental, so let's assume this is a sign and trade, with Larkin taking 8mx8. For next year, that means they will be getting Larkin in lieu of Bunting essentially, they will still have a hole in the top 6, they lose the cheap Sandin, who will also need to be replaced. So, it will likely be their one and only chance to win a cup in the next few years.

If they keep Knies and Robertson for 1/2LW, then they would just need to get a top 4 D on a budget as well as the bottom 6 having to be super cheap. Slightly, better chance but not promising still. Maybe taking back Zadina for the bottom 6 would help cap wise since it's just a slight increase in cap on Sandin.

To me there isn't a good match where the Leafs benefit from adding Larkin and the Detroit benefits from trading him. A Timo Meier trade would make much more sense since it fits the Leafs need better, they want a LH shot and having a PWF is probably what they need. Wouldn't cost the Leafs more than Knies+two 1sts.

Why is an Oilers fan on here trying to chrip leaf fans? Like how hilarious is it for a fan of a team filled with former leaf players to be here chirping. Ceci and Barrie are huge parts of your stellar defence. Perhaps piping down would be wise.

If they got that for Larkin I'd be overjoyed. I think knies is the obvious ask in a deal for him.

A ridiculous scenario for the Leafs. No team will pay that for a rental. Why would the Leafs pay Larkin "anything he wants"? Leafs don't have the cap for him anyway.
Even if Larkin is traded to some team this TDL, no reason to think he won't be returning to the Wings in the summer.

If the wings trade him it's because they are not gonna pay him what hes asking simple as that. If he hits free agency hes gonna get a heck of a lot more so why would Steve sign him for even more.

It's what you want though eh? You aren't here for rational conversation, just subtle egging on of leaf fans hoping they go off. It's what your type love to do. Why? I can't say for certain but it's without a doubt just a waste of time

It doesn't matter if Larkin is a rental or not. Rentals trade within the division aren't cheap period. LD is our organizational strength so we don't even need Sandin. Niemela would be fine as well. But even a rental Larkin is going to cost you Knies like it or not. Knies is a late 2nd round pick so let's not make it out like he's a top 10 pick.
