Trading for Quinn will never be worth it. The Athletic wrote today that Nemec will be the best Slovak defenseman since Chara. Quinn can be signed in free agency.

I don't think it's realistic to think that Vancouver would move Hughes, but when you have the opportunity to snag a known commodity that is already a star player at 23, and the price is a couple of prospects who may or may not some day down the road end up as something even remotely close to what Quinn Hughes already is, you absolutely pull the trigger on it instead of dreaming on futures.

And don't get me wrong, I think Nemec is an excellent prospect, and I don't know that QH is the move that the Devs need to make, but if someone said to me "Hey, would you trade these two prospects and a late 2nd for Quinn Hughes?", it would be a very, very quick yes. $7.825 for a bonified top pairing dman through his prime years? Sign. Me. Up.

further to your point, VAN would never trade Hughes for 2 prospects and a late 2nd. Horvat got a 1st and 2 prospects...... QH being a defenseman alone ups the value, not to mention he is young, proven and signed for term through his prime.
like, would the devils take a 2nd, Lekkermaki and Podkolzin for Hamilton?

Too many brothers named Hughes on the team. They form their own clique...which IMO is bad for the team.
Devils keep Nemec, Sharangovick, and spend 6m on a UFA centre and they will much better off.

It would cost nemec, mukhamadullin, holtz and atleast 2 1sts for Hughes. You don’t get a superstar d man locked in long term on a very good contract who’s only 23 for one good prospect

The Devils wish Nemec is as good as QH. Neither of those trade packages get you those players.
