No chance we could resign Tarasenko

Created by: KingLundqvist30
Team: 2023-24 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 10, 2023
Published: Feb. 10, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Don’t take this serious, this is just a “what if”. It would involve Tarasenko taking a discount, us trading Goodrow, and other players taking a discount (mainly Chytil). This is highly unrealistic and should be considered as such.

I think they would need to sign Chytil to 5mx5, bridge Miller to a 2-year deal for like 3.5m if possible, then maybe Tarasenko would be willing to take 5.8m.

Personally, I think it would need to be in the 6s, but who knows.

Truth be told I see him getting 3 years by $6 mil. Unless he takes a discount somewhere which is unlikely I think he’ll be overpaid this summer.

Tough part with Chytil is he’s arbitration eligible and he’s playing at a 60 point pace. 5x5 may be generous.

For sure, it would be. Since Miller isn't maybe they can get him at 3M, then Chytil takes 5.5M or still 5M but x3 (or whatever puts him at 1-year away from FA).

3Mx2, 5Mx3, and 6.3Mx3 or 5 would be a challenge still but starting to seem a little more plausible to me.

How they would plan on paying Lindgren, Kakko, and Schneider raises the following year, and Lafreniere and Igor in 2-years time will be interesting though. Don't think the cap-rise would be enough, especially if Kakko and Lafreniere breakout. In 3-years time, Chytil and Trouba probably switch cap hits more or less.

Yeah, it's hard to gauge.

Yeah, it's definitely possible. Especially on how good he performs with you guys.

Tarasenko will have about 30 regular season games plus hopefully many playoff games to see how he fits in and what kind of chemistry he has with Mika and Panarin. If he goes on a tear and fits really well, and they have a long successful playoff run, Drury will be hard pressed to let him walk and may have to get creative with some trades to sign him. If he doesn't play well or have good chemistry, Drury probably lets him walk.

I think Lindgren gets moved at some point depending on how Robertson and Jones develop. Igor will likely be $8-9 mil, Kakko will be a must to extend and Schneider will probably get a 3 year bridge around $3-3.4 mil.should be interesting to see.

Completely agree. If he’s happy in NY with 🥖 then I could see a cheap friendly deal.

If they are resigning Tarasenko, it would seem that they would be better off moving him sooner rather than later and locking up Miller if he's willing to take something like the OP suggested or less. Of course, finding a hockey trade/signing a replacement at a lower cap hit and with some term would be a challenge.

All they can do now though is try their best to win the cup this year.

You still haven't really resolved the cap issue with Goodrow. "Any team" kinda meaningless. He has a M NTC which certainly means he could block any trade to a team with cap. And even if a team wants his iffy contract, they would want to return similar cap to the Rangers which negates the purpose of the trade.
