Helping on the Chychrun Trade

Created by: Super_Randy

Description
Way the trade works out:

ARI gets:
2023 1st NJD (Top 10 protection)
Mackenzie Blackwood
Alexander Holtz
2023 1st FLA or MTL (trade condition is the same as when MTL acquired Dvorak. ARI gets the best of the 2 picks unless one is top 10, them MTL will keep that top 10 pick. However, if both of the 2023 1st round picks that MTL owns are top 10, MTL can keep the better of the two 1sts.) ARI could also flip Blackwood for profit as well.

MTL gets:
Simon Nemec
Karel Vejmelka
Andreas Johnsson

NJD get:
Josh Anderson
Jakob Chychrun
Jake Allen @ $1.4M retention
2023 4th (PIT VIA MTL)

I view this trade as MTL paying half the cost for Chychrun for NJD and in return got a couple great young players. Losing Anderson sucks and I know he is streaky, but he will play as a 20 goal scorer with some bite. Also cost certainty for NJD is great because Bratt is gonna be paid this offseason.

Does nj not have to abide by the cap anymore? And how does taking on a terrible Josh Anderson contract help them bring on Chychrun?

Awful for the Devils no matter what way you slice it. Keep Anderson as far away from Jersey as possible.

And why do they want Chychrun? Defensive depth is their greatest strength ... both current and prospect pool. They should just keep Nemec

Nemec is going nowhere. Habs should have taken him instead of Slafkovsky.

Also how do you figure Montreal is paying Arizona half for Chychrun? They are only giving up a 2023 1st, but they get a 2022 1st from NJ in return. They aren’t paying anything and they get the total win. They get rid of a long term large cap hit cap dump for a pending UFA smaller cap hit cap dump. Sounds like a win to me. They replace an overpaid backup goalie with a cheap starting goalie. Sounds like a win to me. They trade their 2023 1st (11th-32nd) for 2022 1st (2nd). Sounds like a win to me since MTL keeps the better of the two picks if at least 1 is top 10, which is what will happen.
NJ gives up their 2nd overall pick from last year, a 1st this year, their backup goalie, a solid prospect for Chychrun, a backup goalie that’s at best equal to Blackwood, and a worse cap dump than what they are giving up.
