Canucks aren’t trading Schenn for a couple fringe NHLers. He’ll probably return a 2nd

I know B's nation is creaming for this to happen, but as an outsider, I think you guys are friggin nuts to considering anything but depth moves. Boston is just terrorizing teams right now, so why mess with the chemistry and dynamic?

Luke Schenn, one of the most prolific scoring defencemen 5 on 5 in the NHL (40th place, ahead of DeAngelo, Klingberg, Fowler, Durzi, Chabot, etc) will fetch more than these players. His physical play, league leading hits, leadership, and quality of teammate is superior to most. Canucks will need a roster player, a prospect and a 1st rounder for him...and they'll get it.

You’re over the cap when DeBrusk comes back unfortunately.

Grze would (and should) go as part of the ARZ trade to make enough salary.

Clifton is mini-McAvoy and not sitting, nor Forbort (PK and shot blocks). I can see the leadership wanting to keep Grzelyck but does it make sense?

Actually he is 23rd in 5v5 points. Ranked higher than Makar, Hesikanen, and Chychrun. Update the copy pasta to let the world know 😉

Where do you get those numbers? I'm looking at NHL.com. Even strength points amongst defencemen. It says Makar has 24 to Schenn's 17, Heiskanen has 21. Or are you look at the points per 60 minutes? Makar and Heiskanen both have much higher TOI than Schenn. Either way, that's some elite scoring for Schenn...definitely worth a roster player, prospect and a 1st.

Well 5v5 and even strength are slightly different. Even strength counts for 3v3, and 4v4 as well. At strictly 5v5, Schenn is 23rd in the league for defensemen in points. 4v4 and OT likely inflate Makar and Heiskanen's stats. You don't ever see Schenn in OT

Edit: Schenn is 16th in the league for defensemen in points/60 minutes at 5v5 lol. Elite offensive d man Luke Schenn

This is true, NHL.com didn't have just 5v5 stats, they only have even strength. I like your stats better....1st, prospect and a roster player it is!!

That's all well and good, but that doesn't mean they'll get it. Ghost is likely to get traded for a 1st, probably not much more than that. You're going to tell me that Schenn is just one step down?

Yeah, and? Have you paid attention to him this year?

Horvat has been pretty average before this year, but because of his numbers THIS year he got a good return and killer contract. Learn hockey.

Horvat wasn't a negative asset before this year. Consistent 50+ point player. Scored 30 last year as well. He didn't go from being a cap dump to being valuable. Seeing as how Shayne is purely an offensive d man and only has 10 more than a more sheltered shutdown d man like Schenn, I'm not too sure what you see in him. Schenn also has a very cheap and affordable contract. He is going to get more than you think

Never ever said Horvat was a negative asset. I said he was pretty average, which he was. My point is, the recency bias matters in value. Ghost is having a crazy good year and is 100% worth a 1st. Schenn is cheap, affordable and a serviceable 3rd pairing dman. That doesn't get you a 1st or 2nd. Of course I always have to cite the Chiarot rule here, but that's the exception, not the rule.

I'm not saying Ghost isn't worth a first, however Schenn can definitely get around a second round pick. Canucks were literally offered that last season. He has been even better this season. Despite being a tough shutdown d man, he has actually been quite good offensively as well. Canucks got a 3rd round pick for 3 million dollar Travis Hamonic. He is worse, 4 times more expensive, and had multiple years left on his bad contract. Tell me why the Canucks can't get more for Schenn?
