If that's the best return the hawks will just keep Kane. Better to let him walk in free agency than to be known as the gm that traded the franchise player for a 2nd, "old" prospect, and cap dumps.

In some aspects, it would be nice to just get something for players if they are gonna be leaving anyway, but our GM would be smart to not make himself look like a mark so early in his GM career. Which is why he didn't take lowball offers at last years TDL. It's a good sign that he is willing to play chicken to the bitter end and that he recognizes when people are trying to play him. Make trades in good faith or don't make them at all. Which is why I hate GM's like Jarmo Kekaleinen. The fact that CBJ even has a chance at getting a top 5 pick makes me sick to my stomach.
Take what you can get I guess. Not saying the trade proposed is perfect, but he needs to go for something.
I see it differently. Is he an effective GM for sticking to his guns and not selling, or is he the odd man out by overvaluing players teams won't pay for. Kane can definitely catch a 1st, but it wouldn't look much better if he was kept past the deadline and walked into free agency for nothing.
And yeah, rag on CBJ, but having one of the best prospect pools in the league will look really nice when the rebuild is over.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't I guess.
