Vrana called up should Bert get moved

Created by: TheWolfe
Team: 2022-23 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 14, 2023
Published: Feb. 14, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Quite the log jam at forward with Vrana back in the mix even with Raymond out. Seems like the obvious choice to move Bert at the deadline but I really have no idea what his value is right now given his recent injury history hurting his production.

Why trade Bert? Red Wings are currently 5 points behind Pittsburgh. 6 back of Washington with 3 games in hand. Those are the 2 wildcard teams.

Plus we're 4 points back of Florida and the isles with 4 games in hand.

We're tied with Buffalo.

Detroit got no games in hand though so unless Pitt loses 5 in a row and Det wins 5 wont be catching. Also would have to hope Buffalo struggles and Washington doesnt continue adding points

If they sell it will be at the TDL like Yzerman always does

If somebody offers a 1st round pick for him, I think you need to trade him. It’s not like he has been carrying us this season.

I disagree, Bertuzzi's trade value is pretty low and that also means his value in terms of signing his next contract is low as well. Thats why I think resigning with Detroit for a season or 2 is the most logical outcome. He has 2 20g seasons and a 30g season here in Detroit and he knows as long as he is playing well, he will be on the 1st line with Larkin. This season was rough for him but I have no doubts he will return to form and clearly I'm not alone in thinking that the fans of several teams wouldn't want him if they didn't feel the same way.

Yes. It's "Bertuzzi sucks so we're not giving up anything good for him but we'll still add him to our top 6 so we can compete for a Stanley Cup." 🤭

Yeah, it's the most logical outcome for the Wings and Yzerman, but Would Bertuzzi himself wanna sign a 1-2 year contract tho? He is at the age where he should get his last big contract.

But if he leaves do you think anyone will be willing to give him $6M? If he was a UFA at the end of last season, what do you think he'd get?

If no one is willing to give him what he wants, it's totally possible that he signs for 1 or 2 years no matter where goes. In Detroit where he has had success and he will likely be playing on the top line with Larkin who he has chemistry with.

I'm actually expecting Bert to sign a 1 year deal with Detroit. If he has another season like he did last season then he's far more likely to get the long term deal he wants. Whether it's in Detroit or with another team is up for debate.

Just keep him at this point and see how the road trip finishes up.

Bert is very hard to value because of the odd injuries he's had this year. I really wouldn't be shocked if he got a one year "prove it" extension at a small raise to stay here at this point because his value probably just isn't very high

I will offer this counterpoint though: we've got a MASSIVE log jam at LW with Bert, Vrana, Fabs, Kubs, and Bergy. Of those five, Bert seems like the one who is most likely to get moved due to age/cost to re sign.
