Saw rumor Kane to TML

Created by: Jco5ta5
Team: 2022-23 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 15, 2023
Published: Feb. 15, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I saw this rumor but no one from the Hawks are talking about it so I doubt it’s real. Just a thought exercise.

Supposedly Kane said he only wants NYR or Toronto. I’m guessing NYR is out now.
Trades
CHI
  1. Knies, Matthew [Reserve List]
  2. 2023 1st round pick (TOR)
  3. 2023 3rd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
General asking price for Kane = nhl prospect, 1st and another pick.
TOR
  1. Kane, Patrick ($5,250,000 retained)
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
Added a second rounder to sweet the prospect. I’d really want Knies but Knies + 1st might be too much to ask for Kane. So swapping out a 2nd and 3rd essentially moves TML up in the draft.

If that rumour actually were true, Chicago would have very little leverage here, so no they wouldn't be getting Knies & a 1 st & a 3rd.

Giroux got something similar and he only had 1 team he’d agree to. I’m also moving you up in the draft like 50 spots.

I hear ya. But they might if it gets you out of the second round. Who knows. As highly touted as Knies is, there’s never a guarantee he amounts to anything. He’s never played a game of professional hockey. So he could be a failure as much as he becomes a top 6 player.

All that could be true. If Knies is traded for a player with term who can play in the top six then that's a good trade. But trading him for a rental forward is like throwing him away without even giving him the chance to prove himself. I think Kane could be traded to the Leafs with picks and a less valuable prospect.

Well adding substance to your post would be helpful instead of just posting a screenshot as if it’s a mic drop. I’m not a mind reader. I’ll further point to the Giroux trade as a closer comparison. Hall is a cancer and not HOF bound. Kane might go down as the best American ever (for now, until we see how Matthews career unfolds).

You’re gonna laugh at me… I think I saw it on one of those Instagram rumor mills that were “quoting multiple sources”. I recognize this isn’t a trusted source and I said so in the description. I just thought I’d take that idea and come up with some friendly banter back and forth between two fan bases is all.

Was just wondering. I’ve seen plenty of ppl tweet it (like Biz last night) but I think it’s more ppl want to see that versus actual rumors on if Toronto is in on him or Kane is willing to go there.

Giroux wasn't declining and didn't have a hip injury that every team is worried about. Particularly the injury point. That's why the Hall trade looks like a better expectation.

Exactly this. Furthermore teams have looked at everything Florida did last year as a cautionary tale. They gave up way too much.

Also we just saw a similar situation in what the NYR did. They literally made this trade that had the same context- the team trading away the player instantly lost leverage because the player controls where they want to go. And that was a trade with a player that was better. And that's a team that made that trade after saying they wouldn't trade for literally this player because of the limitations. But yeah no, for sure you got it right in this trade.

I get why you did it, but I doubt CHI is sending a 2023 2nd back. Maybe 2024 or 2025. OR TBL's 2023 2nd.

I just know how much Toronto values Knies and rightfully so. I just thought I'd sweeten the deal to get him instead of a guy like Robertson or Abruzzese and keeping our 2nd.

For sure. Robertson and Abruzzese don't have as much value as a lot of TOR fans seem to think. Not even when you package them together.

Well, none of us know exactly what's going on with Kane's hip of course but he has come out and said several times that it feels better than last season and it's been ongoing for years. And as far as decline, he is obviously having a career worst year but this is likely more of an outlier. He put up 91 points last year, on a pretty horrible team. But this team now is historically awful. Kubalik, Dach, Strome, and Debrincat are all gone. Those are 4 of the top 6 forwards and guys who all help on the power play. I mean my god his center right now is Jason Dickinson. I think if he gets traded, we'll see Kane back at a PPG pace the rest of the year.

tears of joy tears of joy Right? It's a shame too cuz Nick and Alex both have a ton of talent. But Nick can't stay healthy and Alex just can't seem to transition to the NHL for whatever reason. I've heard people say that Alex Nylander is more technically skilled than his brother. But it takes more than talent to make it at this level.
