Only a third contract on an 8 year deal and below the 5M AAV mark. But history has not been kind so far with these (Matheson, Kotkaniemi).

Matheson went from good to terrible to good. Thinks he's well worth that contract now. Kotkaniemi's contract is terrible, but it's only year 2 of it. Give him some time.

I love the player and the contract for both sides, great top 4 lockdown dmen who can chip in for 20 points for only 4.125 for 8 years is great value. Reminds me of Pesce's contract, Just like Pesce was underrated, Anderson is too. If the Kings do get Chychrun, they'll have one of the best d-cores locked up for a little (I know Doughty is getting older but I think he can be good enough until the near end of his deal.)

A hair over what I expected. This is such an unbelievable contract. Anderson is turning into the next Adam Pelech and most people don't even know who he is. He is so good defensively.

I don't think so. Anderson really isn't a top pairing defenseman to me.

Yes he is.

I'm guessing this means the Kings are out of the Jakob Chychrun sweepstakes.

Why's that? Quicks 5.8m deal expires after this season. Cap won't be an issue.

I just find it funny that the Kings would sign a LD to a long-term multi-million dollar extension right after trade rumors involving Chychrun hit a fever pitch.

But, maybe I'm reading too much into it.

I think you're reading into it too much. They are completely different defensemen and if you look at the Kings left side after this season, he's the only LD.

Maybe it even forces AZ's hand to get a deal done(probably not)

Anderson and Chychrun aren't competing for the same roster spot. Anderson is Doughty's partner, the Kings are shopping for a partner for Matt Roy. I think Chychrun and Anderson fit in the lineup together quite well.

Anderson is now the third player in the cap era to sign an 8-year deal with an AAV of <$5,000,000
